Not great for those living outside UK but receiving their income from UK. It feels a bit like watching the pound drop in 2008, all though at its worst back then the fall was more rapid. Tomorrow morning we will need to see if the fall continues and what if anything is done to stop it. I have read speculation of an emergency interest rate rise from BOE which can't look good given they only set the rate last Thursday.

Bitter sweet for UK expats between those working overseas paid locally and those on UK incomes as you say. I suppose swings and roundabouts as the tide on exchange rates turn.

Never mind 2008, I would hope that the people responsible for making that decision have enough collective memory of Black Wednesday in 1992, and the futility of trying to fight market forces when it comes to exchange rates.

Just so people are aware. I have used Wise since 2016 and never had any problems . Today I started to make a transfer. I completed all the details. I was then told that uk bank need to confirm the transfer and was given the list of uk banks to choose. I clicked on HSBC and was taken to a page requiring me to confirm my identity with HSBC. This is normally what happens. When I filled out my details and security code I was rejected. I did it twice and same problem. I then phoned HSBC who said that they had no evidence of me signing into their confirmation of identity page and warned that it sounded like a fake page. I cancelled the transaction immediately and have put a block on my HSBC account whilst they check. This has never happened before so I am not sure what to think. I suggest that no one uses any 3rd party links to their bank and confirm the transfer to wise manually

I use my nationwide account to transfer my pension every month and for the past couple of months, when using the link from the Wise page and putting in my details I have had the unable to complete message.
To be honest I think you will find its the bank playing silly sods with Wise etc and not a scam, especially if you followed the link from the list of banks during the wise transfer as these should be safe as Wise has a https and must have a certificate.

Ive taken to either making a one off payment to my wise account every month and then transferring the money from there.
Or going through the wise page and clicking pay manual.

It's the first time this has happened. I tried the confirmation of identity page for HSBC twice and it just came back saying unable to confirm try again. I then phoned HSBC who said that they said they would know if I had tried to log in to their page. I can see the danger as the wise site just gives you a link to a very basic looking HSBC headed page not the bank website.

For clarity its an issue with HSBC not Wise.

No it's not HSBC problem it comes down to the fact thfacing order to you confirm your Wise transaction you need your bank to confirm your identity to wise. Wise automatically tries to connect you with said bank by providing a link. That link can be hacked by another directing you to a fake page which HSBC confirmed to me as if I had used to genuine HSBC page they would have detected it. They warned me that I should never use a 3rd party link that connects to them as it was a classic way of being duped. Effectively you are filling in a field with all your banking information and most importantly putting in your 30 second time limit generated security PIN - this is apparently long enough to be harvested and used by a sophisticated scammer.

For all my transfers from Wise to my Sabadell account I set up the transfer amount etc in Wise. Then go to my online Lloyds account and using stored details (IBAN / reference etc) to manually transfer the funds to Wise and then finalise the transfer to Sabadell. Perhaps a bit more involved than just using a Wise link to Lloyds but more reassuring in my opinion.

OK, I won’t argue the point but the process that Wise use is tried, tested, industry standard and secure. Suggesting it is a ‘link’ and can be hacked is way off. It is a secure connection between Wise and your bank login ….. whether your phone or PC has been compromised is another matter, but that isn’t the responsibility of Wise.

I must admit I thought the same however once you have entered basically all your security details into a page that asks you to repeat the process it would be stupid to persist if you had been directed through a 3rd party link as opposed to log in into the banks secure site. Scams evolve and they succeed exactly when people think they are safe. Anyway as the above poster says better to actually do the transfer to wise manually even if it takes a little longer.
