if you can cel your sky subscription correctly then yes your card continues to function as a freesatfromsky card.
it is unknown if cancelled sub cards will be replaced or not (more likely to be not!)
the sky card change is expected in april, and completed in may, after which all existing "yellow house" cards will be deactivated.
unless somehting crops up and sky delay it again, but some new white cards have appears for a few people who have requested new ssubscriptions, and many sky employees have also had their new cards..

bbc1,2,3,4, sky news, freesat version of Five are example of FTA channels
you need a freesatfromsky card to get the free to view (FTV) channels.
Skys version of FIVE, Fiver, Five US, Sky3 (strongc4's and itvs) are examples of FTV channels.

Sky will allow you to set up a contract without a Tel line or having and engineer come around to your UK apartment or house. You will need a SKY box and access to a dish to activate the card ( either in Spain or UK)
You can phone up SKY ( without telling them you are moving), that you have not got a tel line, you already have a dish installed and have a SKY box also which is currently on FTV, You can then order a manual set up contract for a setup fee of £25.00. ( be prepared they will try everything to get your Tel Line number and sell you something you dont want), The card will then be delivered in about 5 days by post with the contract, You now have to phone up sky to activate, for which you will need the card and SKy box together and connected to a dish picking up the sky signal, ( I did this on my dish in Spain using my UK registered mobile phone so they see the UK based number!!). No problems and all is tickety boo!!.
Whatever happens dont admit to moving or going to Spain, or thats it

Q1 -Where do I get the Skybox from? Just buy one on Ebay?
Q2- Will they not ask me where I got the Skybox from?
Then, I connect the Skybox to a friend's dish stick the card in and ring Sky on the mobile.
Q3 - If I then don't use the card or box for a couple of months, will they close the account or something?
Sorry for all the questions, but I need to have it straight in my head.
Thanks a bunch, everyone

Also, what about billing? Do I not have to register the Box with an address?
If I use our address, which we will rent out, then presumably, if anyone in later years also tries to register at that same address, Sky will cancel one or the other?

you can get them from fleabay, or from an independant satellite installer, or you can get one from sky - at their discounted price for getting an instalaltion done,
Q2- Will they not ask me where I got the Skybox from?
Maybe.
Then, I connect the Skybox to a friend's dish stick the card in and ring Sky on the mobile.
Q3 - If I then don't use the card or box for a couple of months, will they close the account or something?
they are a bit funny if the cards have not been activated within a month of them been sent.
Also, what about billing?
those details shuld be gievn when ordering the sky card...they will ad you for your uk address...and thats wheere the bills are sent to. they ask for a bank dorect debit or credit card for payment.
Do I not have to register the Box with an address?
Justthe card needs an address, but you need to give the box detials for them to activate the card and pair it up so you can watch certain channels
If I use our address, which we will rent out, then presumably, if anyone in later years also tries to register at that same address, Sky will cancel one or the other?
Quite possibly.
Like i have said, sometime you need to be economical with the tructh.
