i recently had a similar problem with a sky card i inherited with a property purchase, that i was paying for monthly, then it went dead. all the agents here were charging the 100-150€ set up fee, so under satandpc's advice, i ordered a new sky card from the uk, using my dads address. i rang them while i was back in the uk, told them i just wanted a new subscription card, as i'd bought the hardware 2nd hand, ordered my 4 package deal, and hey presto, new sky card in about 4-5 days. i was worreid about getting questioned like a crimm, but no worries.
ps- thanks again satpcguy

no, when i ordered my new subscription, i gave them all the details of my box, serial number, make, model etc, and that seemed to satisfy them.
ask satpc for all the relevant infomation needed.
hope that helps

Can i get Setanta sports only if i have a FTV card??? I don´t want a sky subsription. Setanta would be sufficient. I think you only need a card in the box to attatch Setanta.

hi
apols for not replying sooner...just got back from a day of realigning dishes due to the winds....

for sky box details got to services 4 , 5, (the menu option for system details). the key detail is serial number, but best to have everyth8ng to hand

sultana sprots: you can have a sub for them without any sky sub.
HOWEVER you may have to get them (setanta) to send you a new card as some FTV cards are not upgradeable....you can try it though...

yes a sky box and card will work in spain..the only limit of channel reception is the dish size required....which depends on whereabouts you will be in spain...in the south you may even need somehting like a 2.4m dish...if you have a sky sub try and keep it going and have funds in the UK to keep it going...and see if you can change the address for the sky card to a friend or family members address - who preferably does not have sky - so you get new cards and important letters re the account - and saves you the cost of getting a new card sorted out when in spain.

you will not get the uk "freeview" in spain...but you can get the spanish version of freeview called TDT. it does not have UK TV channels, but does have many UK /US movies and series that are broadcast in their original english soundtrack.
go to TDT.es and input your postcode and confirm your town and see if TDT is available in your area.

UK "freeview" receivers do work in spain but have some limitations - they may not scan all the spanish frequencies and may not allow you to change the languages. buy you can get a TDT set top box from most shops these days.

hope this helps

I have two sky accounts one I brought with me from the UK I had that one since Sky was born. I chop and change my packages during the opening and closing of the Football season and telephoned from Spain and have always been upgraded or downgraded whatever I needed to do. Reading on the digital spy forum.(just Google it will come up) Sky do not act on none UK calls because of the way their phone system it set up. They will of course cut you off if they know you are in Spain because you are in breach of the terms and conditions. There are over a million subscribers outside of the UK network and if they cut you all off overnight that is a tidy income to lose, But under film copyright law etc if they find out the individual will be cut off. The second account was obtained when I bought my HD box from a UK company. I again have chopped and changed that account which is done on my behalf by them via e-mail and I have never had a problem. They have been around since 1992.

i know of a few other tricks for the sky call centres but need to keep them to myself - i have to earn a living somehow!!!
Just to update... sky rep/answer person...

would not deal with the caller for anything that was not a new application for that person, they insisted on calling back.... then...

would not issue a new/replacement card if it was used in the household of another unit.

would not issue a new/replacement card for the unit used at another UK address as they said they need to know who the unit was bought from if second hand.

would not send a replacement card unless all the information and address related to what they have on record, would not set up the new/replacement card in another name than the caller as they had to speak to that person, or the caller would need to send a copy of 'power of attorney' to call on the other persons behalf.

If the person could not communicate on a phone because of any other problem then the whole thing would need to be dealt with disabilities department....

this just goes on and on.... 4 hours long and 7 different SKY operators.

think it will be Spanish TV from now on....

I can see why people become real criminals, seems like they have it easier
