Default Sky Anytime Plus

News that from Easter BBC iplayer will be available on it plus you don´t need Sky Broadband. Now how does that effect us living in Spain or doesn´t it?

BBC iPlayer, ITV Player to launch on Sky Anytime+

Sky has today made significant strides towards broadening its video on-demand offering by agreeing deals to make BBC iPlayer and ITV Player available to around 5m of its satellite TV homes.

The catch-up TV services operated by the BBC and ITV will launch this year in Sky Anytime+, the video on-demand platform launched by Sky in 2011, which delivers content over an internet connection in Sky+ boxes rather than over satellite.

ITV shows such as Prime Suspect and Lewis will be offered on Sky Anytime+ from tomorrow, accessible through the main Sky Anytime+ menu, as well as a new dedicated ITV Player section.

BBC iPlayer will launch on the platform later in the year, offering catch-up access to shows such as Sherlock, Top Gear and Outnumbered.

Sky Anytime+ was previously only available to Sky subscribers who also took a Sky Broadband connection, but Sky has today announced plans to broaden access to the service to cover all Sky+ homes, regardless of their chosen broadband providers.

According to Sky, this means that more than 5m homes will be able to receive Sky Anytime+ by Easter 2012, extending it from the previous 1.2m taking Sky broadband.

There will be no change for anyone in Spain.

The Anytime+ service will still be geoblocked like it is today, meaning your Spanish IP address (and all other non UK IP addresses) will be blocked from using the service, just as it is now.
Unless you use a VPN with a UK IP address.

It says you dont need Sky Broadband, as currently Anytime+ is only available to Sky Broadband users, but soonAnytime+ will be available to any UK broadband service.

You need to use a proxy server to acces Sky player, iPlayer, ITV player, Lovefilm et al.

You can however access via http://www.tv-links.eu/ but only if you have a good broadband connection.

If you have an iPhone 4 you can access ITV Player enter your UK post code.

Both BBC and ITV players are geo-blocked via the Internet but on my satellite box I can get ITV iPlayer but not BBC iPlayer.

Odd!

Odd!
Is that a Sky box or a freesat box?

It's the Humax Freesat HDR. There is also a film streaming service under test at the moment.

The TV is in theory able to get BBC and ITV players but as it is setup for Spain it gets the Spanish equivalents. It gets YouTube OK though.
