Please don't think me mad:curse: But if I stay for five month in Spain then travel to France for a week can I then come back into Spain for a further five month. Just thinking on how to make life easier.

I believe the residency rules are a total of 183 days in a year, not consecutive, so,it would not help.
Also, 183 days is for tax purposes, it's 3 months for residency.

How would you prove you had been to France? and as has been said it's 183 days in any year, and after 3 months Spain you must apply for residencia.

Is this appicable if you´re travelling about and not working?

The law says "In Spain more than 3 months" the police like to keep an eye on all the foreigners.
