We now understand and have put it behind us. You either live with it or go elsewhere.

It is not that we are innocents here for French living for all those years enables one to have a Phd in the subject.

What is happening however and throughout France that each fosse septique that does not comply with modern day environmental standards has to be changed and you have two years in which to do it.

Of course financial benefit as it sewerage charges absolutely agree. Still mains drainage is the preferred option not to be just get on with it.
They were threatening changes to fosse septiques back in the early 90s when I lived in France last. The" new laws" were rumored to be able to force people to dig up their fosse and buy more land to install the new versions with the longer pipe runs required,In reality the new directives have only really affected new builds. The new scare story is smoke detectors, with reported snap visits from the Pomps levying on the spot fines........we'll wait and see

Reality I am afraid and dependent upon the terrain and the like circa 9000 euros.

They are employing University students during summer months to visit let us say 'notable' properties.

Even Notaires now advise. Lived there for over 35 years. Changing. I even know of one house with the fosse in the bathroom

This is just a scare, the French Pompiers have got better things to do. It was also announced that the Certificates provided by the makers should be sent to the Pompiers....
These Certificates should be sent to the Insurance Companies, to reduce hassle in the event of a subsequent fire damage claim.
