I dont think the tax rates are any higher in Spain than in the UK.
When I moved to Spain I had my UK salary converted to euros and I basically came out with the same each month as I did in the UK after tax.
But I was better off as I didnt have to pay council tax in Spain (renting) and of course the VAT in Spain is lower than in the UK.
The 8% property sales tax in the big one in Spain as this is only 1-3% in the UK. This tax has put me off buying anywhere unless I want to stay in the same place for 10 years plus.
At the lower end, and as an Autonomo it certainly is higher. 270 euros in Seguridad Social before you've earned a penny!
