Have you ever tried taking a lawyer in the UK to court?

Going back to the early 90's we were given extremely bad advice by a "blue chip" accountant, which initially cost us a great deal of money. Could we do anything about it ....... nah.

Theres good and bad in every country. We had a crap lawyer when we first moved here who we sacked eventually, and then we got a very good one that sorted out any problems we had ... I guess it's pot luck. You have to be lucky, as I heard so many bad stories now about professionals in Spain

By the way ..... I dont regret my decision about initially buying here, but if I were walking the same path now, Spain is pretty far down the list as to where I would buy.

Not only can the government not be trusted, it's a very brave or perhaps foolish person who even trusts the lawyers here.
I'm sure it's only in Spain that a lawyer after telling you it's illegal... then tells you they will "do black money" if you want them to, an offer we quickly declined.
Is it any wonder the country is in such a financial mess, when so much corruption is rife in professions where you wouldn't expect it?

When declaring cash income, one is considered crazy.
No wonder they have to overcharge on Seguridad social and taxes when there are so few paying it. Because taxes on honesty are so high, people are encouraged to go 'black market'..... It's self-fulfilling.
Makes it doubly difficult for the honest and doubly easy for the 'not so honest'

There was a bit a furore here a few months ago in the Spanish press when one of the Catalan nationalist politicians said they shouldnt have to subsidise Andalucia as "noone there pays any taxes".

I found that to be true, I always had to pay the IVA in Barcelona, in Andalucia I dont think I've paid it once!

Thumbs up Re: Seems it's now safe to buy in Spain!

No matter how much critisism is levelled at the Spanish system, we will never get away from the fact that many thousands of people´s dream in life is to Retire to a climate where sunshine prevails, and Spain, being the closest, is ALWAYS going to be, for obvious reasons, the most popular. SO, even though there is a major blip at the moment, all those people with their dreams are not likely to forget them. It is just a matter of time for when things pick up again !!

The truth of the matter is that if people are in a position to purchase NOW, they are really spoilt for choice........soooooo many wonderful Bargains are to be had.

Very true. Wish I had the money to invest. I'd love to buy a little casa rural here. Then my husband would have work!;-) Unfortunately I lost my impetus in the fall of the value of the £. I had a foot in each camp at the time and a big builders bill over here with a less valuable house to pay for it with... over there. I knew I was leaving it too late even then. But I was stuck.
Ian is right. It's a good time for buyers who were wise, or lucky or bankers at the time of the 'crash'.

Hi
A little biased maybe. But having been working over here for over 20 years I have never seen a better time to buy.

Regards

Ian

I would think 15 years ago was a way better time to buy. After all our landlord bought 3 flats at 50k each. Now he is asking 400k for each of them!

Spanish property has increased 4 times in real terms of the past 15 years so your statement is just silly, unless you know some properties with 75% off!

Abogados are not lawyers in the English sense.

They have no duty of care to their client, many have no idea of current laws, none have malpractice insurance because it does not exist in Spain.

If you are sure that malpractice insurance for abogados does not exist in Spain, could you explain the following.

You obviously dont know what "real terms" means i.e. accounting for inflation.

Some conversations you just cant have with some people
