We don't have a dog now but have a couple of grandogs and are very dog friendly so we often go up on the top deck (10) to see the dog walkers and their pooches they all seem so contented.

Kennels on the Cap are on the top deck, you can't hear them barking from the cabins. There is a cordoned off part of the top deck to excersise them, but I have often seen owners walking their pets outside of this area.
We have never seen a height restriction bar at the ports, what they do have is, at the kiosk where you show your boarding pass and collect cabin card etc, is a painted line on the cabin showing the pass/fail height, this is also painted on the road for length of vehicle as well. So really the height of th vehicle is a judgement call for the cabin staff. We've only witnessed this being called into question once and that was at portsmouth.

Andy if you don't book ASAP the dog friendly cabins will have gone they only have a very small number. They even run out of kennels at times.

Original plan was to drive through france as I will be in August, but I dont think staffy's get on that well with French plod, plus its too long for him to be in the vehicle for me and you have to find somewhere to stay, on the ferry I know I can get from top to bottom in about 7 hours

Its difficult as I don't know what I am going to do, whether he will come in the van or the car or whether I sell my van and hire one, plus somedays the prices vary greatly.

Spain has laws regarding any pets that are regarded as from 'dangerous ' breeds. Are you staying here with your dog or just visiting ? I have no idea if laws are different based on that. Have you read up on the rules and regulation for here ?

From the exact same town we are moving too a ex pat in a similar position did this
Hello, just a quick post, when we moved to spain 2 years ago I was not aware of Staffie being potentially Dangerous breed here. I live in Rojales,Alicante and we got a Staffie puppy, then after a while I received a letter from Ajuntamiento (Local Authorities) That I have to register him and some rules apply. I thought at once oh no, it will be a problem, but to be honest, all can be done in a day or 2. I needed:
1. His passport and all injection information which they copy and retain;
2. My Passport / Residencia;
2. Had to Go For psychologic test which is done for drivers when they pass driving test ( cost me 35 Euros) and I was issued a certificate
3. Had to make an insurance for damages that the dog could cause ( Cost me 95 Euros per annum) i have now had another quote for 75Euro)
4. Draw a plan of my house and indicate where dog is kept and if he has access to gate it has to be covered so noone can put a hand through. Then this is confirmed by a visit from police officer ( Which I did not see or meet) They come to check if the gate is covered ( We put a fine metal mesh)
So with all that above you go to ayuntamiento and later you are issued a licence, it has been a year and I have not received mine, but the main thing is I have a paper from Ayuntamiento which says I have successfully registered With them and he is all legal
This is for American Staffordshire Terrier, I know that for some other breeds the regulations are more strict, but this is for staffies, hope this helps and I can assure you it is not a problem. Yes it will cost you the insurance ant the psychic test and your time, but after that it is just the sake of renewing insurance every year and dropping offin ayuntamineto. If you have any questions you are welcome to get in touch!
