Default Security on Brittany Ferries?

Hello all, using the ferry in September over to Bilbao and taking a lot of stuff! Putting some items on the roof rack, so I have just had to pay extra to allow up to 2.6 metres. Just wondered if there is any security? I know everyone in this world is honest , but how secure will our bits and pieces be?

Thanks in advance.

Never seen a problem and I've done the trip many times.
Lots of passengers load their roof racks and I've never heard of them being disturbed or interfered with.
The car decks are sealed during the journey apart from occasional visits from a security officer or crew member to check that everything is in order.

If any passenger is allowed access to their own car at (most unlikely) they are escorted down and back. We haves a Sharan with a standard roof box and when we were booking many trips back I took the complete rig round to IKEA where they have a height restriction bar on entry to their underground car park. Lo and behold we were below the restriction and therefore the booking limit for MPV/SUV much to my surprise but it saved us money. It is difficult to judge the height from ground level and we thought it would not go under so approached the bar very carefully with youngest sitting on passenger widow sill. He coached me forwards and said we had several cm to spare and that was before we loaded the Sharan with everything including the kitchen sink( no kidding).

Thank you for the advice. I paid to increase the height restriction today because I had this vision of being stuck under the height restriction bar and being told we couldn't board! I know we are well over the 1.8 metres they allow.

Hi

Whilst dogs are put in kennels on the top deck, cats are not and their owners allowed to visit at various times. I have no details having never taken a cat.

We took a cat and were allowed access to the car to check and feed her but only at specific times and accompanied by some attendant.

Hi

Depending on the ferry, and how far in advance you book, there are dog friendly cabins. On my last trip over (Portsmouth Santander) the dog deck was deck 10 where the stainless steel kennels were and also the dog walking deck. No dogs were allowed in the cabins.

Cats have to stay in the car.

Ive no idea if you can hear the dogs..depends where your cabin is I guess but would have thought not...its a separate area for dogs and a walking area for them away from the other passengers.Dogs get a much better deal out of the journey than cats in my opinion.

There is only one of the ferries, the Cap, that has a limited number of specialist pet friendly cabins.

They need to be booked well in advance, otherwise all other dogs, the vast majority, have to go into the metal kennels on the top deck.

There is a good walking/exercise area up there which applies to both.
