Security bars/ insurance premiums?
Hi all,
I read an old thread some time ago about the iron bars traditionally built into Spanish properties ( can't remember the proper name for them). I am planning to have some new windows constructed in the property I am buying. My concern is that they should fit in with the building as it stands, and also meet requirements re insurance. Does anyone have any experience of having them fitted within a new window, or fitted to an existing window. Are they very expensive? I guess wrought iron would be expensive. What are some of the alternatives? Also, what is the proper name for them. Thanks in advance

You can also get persiana,s which is a rollup blind made into the window frame.
Dont know any costs though, you would have to get a firm round to quote a price.

It depends on how many windows you need fit rejas to, but get as many quotes as you can as prices can vary a lot.. I got three quotes from 2 spanish and one english manufacture and funny enough the english one was cheaper and I could recommend them if you are in the Mijas Golf area. It may also depend on where you live. I was never asked for insurance reasons if I had them. Good luck

The traditional spanish reja's in our area (North Almeria) are set in to the wall. I would also advise investigating the cost of door reja's. We have had these fitted. Cost will vary from area to area and with the size of the door. Ours cost €250 for the smallest and about €450 for the larger of the 3. On that basis I would guess a window reja would be about €150-200.
Ours straight bars and a couple of decorative scrolls, I would expect the cost to rise with an thing more elaborate.

Most insurance policies in Spain will insist on Rejas (at least on ground floor windows) unless specifically stated.
It is extremely difficult to get insurance without them. If you have security glass and an alarm you may get cover at an increased premium.

Hi to all and thanks, I'll be meeting with a builder when I come over at the end of the month, and will see what he says, also will get several estimates. Thanks again.
