Hello
I am considering to buy aa attractive detatched house (with pool, in Torrevieja) for occasional use now, and for full time use a bit later in life, once I am freed from the UK.
One potential short term plan is to offer this 3 bed property for seasonal rental (6 months?), which I belive falls outside touristic use (I don't have a license for this). My question is would a 6 month let, either summer or winter, attract anyone, and would the rent be at a premium compared to regular long term letting?
I wonder what are the hassles and downsides of this woudl be, aside from the ever present squatter problem.
Would welcome any thoughts people may have, especially those that may know this market better than I.
thank you

I assume you mean the 'urbs' up behind Torrevieja as the town itself really only offers flats (pisos) and I also assume you know post Brexit you cannot just arrive here and live legally.
A six-month let I do not think would entitle you to the Spanish tax benefits and allowances the same as long-term ( year plus) residential letting would offer.
Yes you might find tenants for a 6-month let - typically that period exceeds normal holiday and is too short for long-term residential tenants. Maybe people who want to try the area or waiting for their off-plan build to be completed.
Yes you run the risk of 'okupas' (squatters) if it is empty and attractive looking.
It is now possible to run a variety of checks on legal tenants. Idealista.com offers all sorts of useful advice in this area.
To be honest with the potential setup costs, risks, taxation etc not sure the plan is totally viable but only you know what risks/investments you are prepared to make.
If the property were to be in a community you do run the risk of 'holiday letting' being prohibited but you seem to have an awareness of that issue.

Rules regarding visas etc are constantly changing, and may well change several time before you do reach retirement age, and don't forget that should Reform get into power the rules may change dramatically if they do bring in the rules they quoted today whereby non citizens will never get indefinite permission to stay, if this happened the Spanish, and other EU countries would, quite possibly, react and it may be that thousands on Brits living in EU countries might well find themselves HAVING to return to the UK, it's a very fluid situation just now.
Every time mad politician makes mad statement, we should jump? Dont think so.
So, keep panic to yourself.

Reform later confirmed that settled and pre-settled status wouldn't be affected for EU citizens resident in UK.
But you know what it's like with these people, they're never happy, as soon as they get one thing they start pushing for something else that goes further. Almost as if they knew they couldn't get away with saying what they really wanted in the first place.

Many thanks for the response and sorry for the delay. I have been away.
Aware of the visa situation. Over the past few weeks my attention has turned to an appartment, which would be more secure, and easier maintenance. I think short term lets would be possible, although not "tourist" lets, subject to community approval.
Has anyone tried this and how has it worked out?
