Default Car Insurance

Hi all
we are planning on spending winter on Costa Tropical this year.
We are taking our car on the ferry to Bilbao and driving down.
Our insurance company here (Ireland) will provide cover abroad for 30 days (3rd party only) and then want an additional €450 to cover our car for the remaining 90 days (again only 3rd party cover).
I’ve found a Spanish company who will insure an Irish registered vehicle fully comp for €62 per month which is a pretty good deal I think for fully comp.
Question is, has anybody heard of a company called Feather Insurance or had any dealings with same?
Or any recommendations for similar?
thdnk you very much in advance for any advice,
you’ve all been so helpful so far with our Spanish relayed questions🙂

Reviews seem to have no problem with them at all. They have a 4.8 out of 5 on Trustpilot with 1300+ reviews.

Either your insurer is ignorant of the law or else is deliberately lying to you.

According to EU law all policies written in the EU MUST provide minimum 3rd party cover throughout the union and for their duration so if you have a valid policy it will automatically cover you for 3rd party risks in Spain.

If their T&C's say otherwise because that is the law in the EU the terms are void and unenforceable.

Most companies will give you 30/60/or some even 90 days free full cover extension on that but not all and if you want full cover throughout then you will have to pay for it which is perfectly normal.

They are clueless in insurance companies here.
Wife rang Aviva and they told her we need a green card. Not for the EU we don’t!

Any good EU Insurer will give you a new green card each year with your new policy.
It indicates clearly the cover you have and the countries included. If you get stopped or you are involved in an accident it is still asked for.
Asking extra money for a green card is a poor and very old UK habit so you need to pressure your insurer or just go to another.
If you drive around EU without adequate cover or you can't provide documentation on the spot it can mess up your plans seriously and cost big money.

I've no idea if this is the company you are already insured with or a different one you mad enquiries with but in any case I never go by what is said on the phone, only what is said in their documentation and on their website. If it's written down then I don't mean it is always true, just there is no get out if it is false.
On Aviva website it says - "Our Comprehensive and Third party, fire and theft cover options on our Aviva Motor policy both provide you with the minimum cover you need to drive your insured vehicle in most European countries, which is third party only cover."

Also - "Cover is valid for up to 90 days for one trip and up to 180 days during the year."

European car insurance – Get a quote - Aviva

"Our insurance company here (Ireland) will provide cover abroad for 30 days (3rd party only) and then want an additional €450 to cover our car for the remaining 90 days (again only 3rd party cover) " - How have you come by that information and is the 30 days written in their policy or general information?.

Just what we’ve been told by phone staff from Zurich (current insurer offering 30 days cover), Aviva (offering 90 days cover with Green Card AFTER the 90 days are up) and AA (broker) who won’t give a price until we take out a policy and only when we are actually away! Nuts.
even the comments here are contradictory, why the heck does insurance need to be so complicated?
actually, it doesn’t need to be, the companies just make it so.

(it doesn’t need to be, the companies just make it so.)

In the pursuit of profits of course, gone are the days of trust, customer loyalty Etc Etc, “but” unfortunately many of the customers nowadays are also shysters……………… …So ?
