Fred, quite right and only applies in Spain, anywhere else you would have to do CBT. So much for whole EU rules!
The OP is still advised to get a full A in the UK for anything bigger, if he has started getting into bikes.

Took 15 posts but the facts surfaced eventually

For my 125 my Spanish insurers only wanted to see A1 my licence.

Took 15 posts because that wasn't the original question - Spanish insurers shouldn't need to see an A1 licence if you have a full car licence. In fact, my Spanish insurers have NEVER asked to see my licence (in 13 years)

I was asked for a copy of my license when I made a claim. A bit late then to find out then, that your licence is not valid for the vehicle you have been driving

It is very easy to verify. Look on the back of your license to see what you are licensed to drive.
