Below you wrote Irish travellers.

No doubt you will cite something to disprove what I am saying.

Im not offended on behalf of others, I just do not like presumption they made.

That program clearly showed the majority of it was from Eastern European the same in UK really, Maybe the way we are told not to racial stereotype in the UK brings us to the way of thinking we/I have.

It would annoy me if a load of Canadians came to the UK and were robbed by Irish travellers and they said, we was speaking to this English lad.............and then he robbed us, for me that is offensive to English who don't do immoral crimes that travellers carry out on a daily basis.

I said Irish Travellers first and Travellers second, I am not trying to disprove anything other than to say they are not the same, which was my point from the start, how did the guy know they were Spanish he did not just assumed they were and you said that your ok with people racially stereotyping Spanish people as muggers.

knew you would come out with something like that.

I notice now that the second time you mentioned travellers you did not put Irish infront of traveller. All in the same paragraph, though.

So when writing about any group, even if the adjective is missed off the following references to the word, it is presumed by tht the writer is talking about the same group, and the adj. has been left out purely to avoid repetion.

example:

American Indians used to survive hunting buffalo, now Indians motly live on reservations.

As you can see, the word American does not have to be said over and over again.

It is presumed that the Indians in question are the American ones and not Indians from India, without it being referred to constantly.

Anyone who thinks it refers to Indians from India in this context, must be pretty thick, don´t you think?

Could that be what you are referring to?

Is that the whole point of your "ambiguous" post?

If so........................you are a fool if you think it proves anything about stereotyping.

As I have said before, if one is mugged in Spain by a Spanish speaker, the obvious conclusion is that they are Spanish, rightly or wrongly.

Altough I suppose you, after having your wallet taken, would politely ask the mugger/pickpocket/thief what his nationality is. Just for the record and to avoid stereotyping.

A load of crap, first how would they know he/ she was speaking Spanish, they could have been talking italian he did not know he said first time he had ever been to Barcelona, every Romanian I have met in Spain and its a fair few speak perfect Spanish.

Its not a obvious conclusion at all, sometimes I am spoken to in Spanish by English and Columbian and Argentinian and many others ladies they lived there so long it rolls off their tounge, they don't look that indifferent

It might be the obvious conclusion to you.......but usually and there should figures to back this up somewhere, that if you are in an Italy town and you ask directions (and the reference was made about mugging in Madrid, if i remember rightly) the nationality of the person you ask is more likely to be Italian.

In Stockholm the most likely are Swedish.
In Copenhagen most likely Danish.........need I go on...........

And by the way aren´t you presuming a lot, that every Rumanian you met in Spain Speaks perfect Spanish.

And I can´t believe you would recognise perfect Spanish even if it was spoken.

Even the Spanish don´t speak PERFECT Spanish any more than the English speak perfect English.

No it was Barcelona, the Guy may not have known what language was being spoken to him and even more unlikely would the mugger say he was Spanish if he was.

Are you for real?

I was being ironic when I said that the mugger would give his natinality.

As for as I know most muggers don´t make small talk with their victims.

Why aren´t you watching the Zaragoza game on TV, with the rest of the machos?

The small talk is part of the scams, he must have said he was Spanish otherwise how could the victim make the assumption ?

we are not going anywhere with this so I can leave it here too.

Subject: Safety Bulletin
Please Read!!! very important

For your information, a couple of weeks ago, in a Dallas movie theater, a person sat on something sharp in one of the seats. When she stood up to see what it was, a needle was found poking through the seat with an attached note saying, "you have been infected with HIV". The Centers for Disease Control in Atlanta reports similar events have taken place in several other cities recently. All of the needles tested HAVE been positive for HIV. The CDC also reports that needles have been found in the coin return areas of pay phones and soda machines.

Everyone is asked to use extreme caution when confronted with these types of situations. All public chairs should be thoroughly but safely inspected prior to any use. A thorough visual inspection is considered the bare minimum. Furthermore, they ask that everyone notify their family members and friends of the potential dangers, as well. Thank you.

The previous information was sent from the Dallas Police Department to all of the local governments in the Washington area and was interdepartmentally dispersed. We were all asked to pass this to as many people as possible.

 Oh Tommy where will they strike next?
