Safety for you..

WRITTEN BY A COP: Everyone should take 5 minutes to read this. It may save your life or a loved one's life. In daylight hours, refresh yourself of these things to do in an emergency situation... This is for you, and for you to share with your wife, your children, & everyone you know. After reading these 9 crucial tips, forward them to someone you care about. It never hurts to be careful in this crazy world we live in.

1. Tip from Tae Kwon Do :The elbow is the strongest point on your body. If you are close enough to use it, do!

2. Learned this from a tourist guide. If a robber asks for your wallet and/or purse,
DO NOT HAND IT TO HIM. Toss it away from you... Chances are that he is more interested in your wallet and/or purse than you, and he will go for the wallet/purse.
RUN LIKE MAD IN THE OTHER DIRECTION!

3. If you are ever thrown into the trunk of a car, kick out the back tail lights and stick your arm out the hole and start waving like crazy.. The driver won't see you, but everybody else will. This has saved lives.

4. Women have a tendency to get into their cars after shopping, eating, working, etc., and just sit (doing their checkbook, or making a list, etc.
DON'T DO THIS!) The predator will be watching you, and this is the perfect opportunity for him to get in on the passenger side, put a gun to your head,
and tell you where to go. AS SOON AS YOU GET INTO YOUR CAR ,
LOCK THE DOORS AND LEAVE..

If someone is in the car with a gun to your head DO NOT DRIVE OFF, Repeat:
DO NOT DRIVE OFF! Instead gun the engine and speed into anything, wrecking the car. Your Air Bag will save you. If the person is in the back seat they will get the worst of it. As soon as the car crashes bail out and run. It is better than having them find your body in a remote location.

5. A few notes about getting into your car in a parking lot, or parking garage:
A.) Be aware:look around you, look into your car, at the passenger side floor ,
and in the back seat.
B.) If you are parked next to a big van, enter your car from the passenger door.
Most serial killers attack their victims by pulling them into their vans while the women
are attempting to get into their cars. C.) Look at the car parked on the driver's side of your vehicle, and the passenger side.. If a male is sitting alone in the seat nearest your car, you may want to walk back into the mall, or work, and get a guard/policeman to walk you back out. IT IS ALWAYS BETTER TO BE SAFE THAN SORRY. (And better paranoid than dead.)

6. ALWAYS take the elevator instead of the stairs. Stairwells are horrible places to be alone and the perfect crime spot. This is especially true at NIGHT!)

7. If the predator has a gun and you are not under his control, ALWAYS RUN!
The predator will only hit you (a running target) 4 in 100 times; and even then,
it most likely WILL NOT be a vital organ. RUN, Preferably in a zig -zag pattern!

8. As women, we are always trying to be sympathetic: STOP It may get you raped, or killed. Ted Bundy, the serial killer, was a good-looking, well educated man, who ALWAYS played on the sympathies of unsuspecting women. He walked with a cane, or a limp, and often asked 'for help' into his vehicle or with his vehicle, which is when he abducted his next victim.

9. Another Safety Point: Someone just told me that her friend heard a crying baby on her porch the night before last, and she called the police because it was late
and she thought it was weird.. The police told her 'Whatever you do, DO NOT
open the door..' The lady then said that it sounded like the baby
had crawled near a window, and she was worried that it would crawl to the street and get run over. The policeman said, 'We already have a unit on the way,
whatever you do, DO NOT open the door.' He told her that they think a serial killer
has a baby's cry recorded and uses it to coax women out of their homes thinking that someone dropped off a baby.. He said they have not verified it, but have had several calls by women saying that they hear baby's cries outside their doors when they're home alone at night.

10. Water scam! If you wake up in the middle of the night to hear all your taps outside running or what you think is a burst pipe, DO NOT GO OUT TO INVESTIGATE! These people turn on all your outside taps full blast so that you will go out to investigate and then attack.

Stay alert, keep safe, and look out for your neighbors! Please pass this on
This e-mail should probably be taken seriously because the Crying Baby Theory was mentioned on America 's Most Wanted when they profiled
the serial killer in Louisiana

I'd like you to forward this to all the women you know.
It may save a life. A candle is not dimmed by lighting another candle..
I was going to send this to the ladies only,
but guys, if you love your mothers, wives, sisters, daughters, etc.,
you may want to pass it onto them, as well.

Send this to any woman you know that may need
to be reminded that the world we live in has a lot of crazies in it
and it's better to be safe than sorry..
Everyone should take 5 minutes to read this. It may save your life or
a loved one's life.

No No No! this is not the "Jokes: A little light destruction!" thread.
I can't be weaving whilst running, nor hiding in the house whilst half the babies in the locality howl on my doorstep! Throwing my wallet down the road when approached by a stranger!
What kind of place are you living in? The poor missus must be at her wits end:p

I have decided that the whole thing is just another attempt to control women, by instilling fear in them. Next you will want them to cover themselves up in case men become excited:(

Some may scoff at your advice Tommy, but there are some very good points to take note of.

The part about getting into the car with a van parked by the side, is not one that I thought of, but now reading this, it is a very useful bit of advice.

The running tap and crying baby would have got me outside, but now I know it could be a trap to the unwary, forewarned is forearmed.

Well, Jonboy, I can only presume that you have not had your wife/partner/daughter arrive home after some incident where they have felt vunerable and afraid.

If a bit more of this type of emails going around helps the likes of Milly Dowler, Suzy Lamplugh etc, what is the problem.

A few days ago there was a "stranger danger" excersise in a park in the UK, some of the children in question went with the stranger without hesitation.

Lets be fair, one thing stood out to me and I will try and remember it for the rest of my life, I think I am quite streetwise but the bit about turning on your taps, well that one possibly for me deserves a bit of credit.

can i give another tip.................if a woman is grabbed from behind and he keeps hold of you from behind then as hard as you can use the heel of your high heels, or whatever foot wear you are wearing and scrape it down his shin bone, then stamp on the joint of his big toe.

Switch on Channel 4 plus 1 now.

Excellent prog and lots of tips about thieving and pickpocketing in Spain.

Much of it in Barcelona, the Worlds number 1 pickpocketing City.

What does a Spanish lad look like ?

Im not defending them (spanish lads) but how can they be sure ?

Some are Spanish, most are not, doesn't matter.

If you watch the prog you'll see every guise and disguise under the sun, male, female even midgets, most you'd never dream could be a threat

They're back on the streets robbing again within an hour of being caught.
No prison sentences for it in Spain either.

It's a huge very sick joke, it's like nobody really cares apart from one or two vigilantes p!ssed off with it all and trying to improve the situation.

I know I agree, I seen it, I can always see the lookouts too, you start too see the same faces everyday, Im very good at people watching, but also I have been foolish more than once, I try and learn, for me now I always leave everything in my car which is usually in UK or Spain not far from me, so I just go back to grab another 20€ should I need it.

II also read the stories in CBN, and often the police have the mugshots in the station of the regulars - but your right they nick them and then they are back out almost straight away.

I just think personally in my own experience its more Eastern European like in UK than it is home grown but that is not to discount it goes on as I know like you it does bigtime.

Hire car I always peel the stickers off, I do worry driving my own motor down though, just Like I say I am more aware of things than others, I hope ?

I've not been turned over myself though it's been tried a few times, and I've seen too many who have been done at close hand.

The result is I'm almost paranoid about it now, suspicious of almost everything and everybody, not sure if it's a good thing or a bad.

I only properly relax now when I'm well away from busy cities, towns and roads back out on my typical traditional home ground out in the sticks or in some remote mountain village.

The entire (reposted) article from Tommy.Irene encourages the notion of vulnerability and fear, does it mention men as victims? No it does not. Yet I think a young man is probably more likely to end up battered, stabbed or dead than a young woman. Just my thoughts and no statistics to back it up as yet.
So why target women? I think it is from the notion that they are the weaker sex and need to be taken care of by? Well you guessed it Men:blink:

It does not bother me that you do not understand others way of thinking.

Im not offended on behalf of others, I just do not like presumption they made.

That program clearly showed the majority of it was from Eastern European the same in UK really, Maybe the way we are told not to racial stereotype in the UK brings us to the way of thinking we/I have.

It would annoy me if a load of Canadians came to the UK and were robbed by Irish travellers and they said, we was speaking to this English lad.............and then he robbed us, for me that is offensive to English who don't do immoral crimes that travellers carry out on a daily basis.

Well yes it is targeted at women, usually the woman is the weaker because the attacker is usually a man.

If you read the article it is not about women needing to be taken care of by men, it is for women who find themselves alone.

If I was robbed in the middle of Paris by a French speaker I would rightly or wrongly presume they were French, wuuld that not be the same for you.

Or would you want to know their nationality, just to make sure that you did not blame the wrong nation?

What are you like outside a cashpoint ? No matter where I am in the world I am bothered if the machine could have been tampered with and if there is people around as they come from nowehere - I am very wary, I don't like it, day or night.

I really think with the technology now we have in the world we could be rid of cards or having to carry cash, I know that does not protect Jewellery but it would go some way to stop muggings.

I don't use cashpoints myself, though I sometimes carry a card just in case of an emergency.
I don't like them and couldn't do with the hassle and inconvenience but having seen my girlfriend turned over with one which had been fixed I would recommend folk not to use them unless they're inside secure premises.

You mention jewellry, but what's the point of it, if it only attracts thieves ?
I never wear anything but a cheapish reliable watch that would be no great loss if it was stolen.

I probably give the impression of not having a penny to scratch my arse, both around my home QTH and when out and about.
I don't care a toss what folk think, it suits me fine and I think goes down ok with my friends and neighbours most of whom probably don't have a clue if I've got a bit stashed away or I'm deep in the mire and being the nice genuine ppl. they are, probably think like me and don't care a toss either.

If Tommy had taken the trouble to watch that CH4 Prog, he'd be aware that there's almost as many women out on the streets praying on vulnerably guys as visa versa.

Tommy I believe is a sincere guy. He makes a post that he thinks will genuinely help others. If you are or consider yourself to be streetwise then it's of no use to you apart from serving as an aide memoire.

Some people may find it useful and informative as is Jimentao's link.

I know the feeling!;) I change the car regularly, and started looking around this week, walked into a few showrooms, like VW/Audi where they know us, and three young girls (nearly all the sales people are girls there) approached us during our wander around, all charming, can we help you etc. Had a chat with one about her coming wedding etc, all lovely people. Did a few more showrooms and although I've never been a big BMW fan, as we were passing, thought we pop in and see what was on offer. Walked past reception, dolly bird chatting to her mate, laughing and giggling, no eye contact. Two suits at a desk chatting, never looked up. Had a cruise around the showroom, cars parked outside, nobody approached us, they clearly decided we couldn't afford anything on offer. And like you, I have never been mugged!

Same with me, though I appreciate not been hassled to death the minute I walk in the door.
I think they tend to regard me as something the cat just dragged in, not even seriously considering for a moment wether or not I could hand them cash for every single motor they have on show.
Todays salesmen stupidly tend to judge a book by its cover, which suits me just fine.
I'm just waiting for the day they have me thrown off the premises as a vagrant, then maybe I'll realize it's time to smarten up a bit.

Anyway,I've been through the Beamer and similar stages a few years back, now I settle for something with a good guarantee and reliability rating that definitely does not appear either posh or the least bit attractive to car thieves and touch wood it seems to work very well.

With regard to Tommies publication, it looks like an American publication written with somewhere like downtown Miami in mind, though obviously in todays world similar problems can occur in many other places.

I found the CH4 prog far more interesting and informative.
They say you can't teach an old dog new tricks, but I must admit there were at least a couple of things on there which might well have caught me off guard.
Well worth watching for those who didn't see it.

Eh, I don't know any offhand, but I dare say I'd try it for a day or two if the Mistresses were tasty enough. :D

Current UK scam, which has been on the news, along with a CCTV clip of it happening, is when a woman returns to her car after shopping, and opens the passenger door to put her handbag inside, as she goes to the boot to put the shopping in she is approached by someone asking for directions, while occupied giving the directions an accomplice goes to the car, opens the door and takes the handbag, then goes away. By the time the woman has given the directions, poaded the goods in the boot and got into the car, they are well away.
Moral to women is, KEEP YOUR HANDBAG WITH YOU.

Much as I hate the scumbags, credit for originality has to be given to the guy who loaded his bag with everyone elses into the back of the bus coming in from the airport.

Who would ever dream that he'd planted a dwarf inside the bag who was able to open it from within, rifle through all the other luggage for valuables, before tucking back inside his bag again ready to be calmly picked up and carried away with no one any wiser on arrival at the hotel.

(Channel 4 last night by the way.)

They have been doing that for decades on the Costas.

We saw a woman driving off leaving her bag containing purse, cards etc on the car roof, fell on the deck as soon as she shot off. I guess she put it there whilst she stowed the shopping in the car. We traced her from the details, she was one relieved lady when we phoned her.
I told this before, but regarding the pointing at the tyres whilst you're driving along, it happened to us in Valencia. Couple of youngsters in a car, must think we are daft to fall for that old trick, so kept driving. It was only when another car did the same and the steering went all funny we decided to stop. Flat as a pancake! I don't recommend trying to change a wheel on a busy main road into Valencia in 100 degrees in a hire car where you haven´t a clue where the jack is etc.
After a lot of sweating, swearing, we were on our way again.
