I give up.

Once upon a time people more or less reasonably said what they were thinking - or exactly what they meant. And other people either put up with it, said their piece too or shut up. There weren't a hundred news and internet channels documenting every word.

England and other countries and their people are being picked to pieces for every tiny thing. Nobody has ever published the Italian banker telling me to **** off back home when I questioned a bank charge. Nobody has ever caught on camera the daddy of some kid berating me for speaking English in Italy and me defending myself and my life. It has never crossed my mind to try and sue the school because my kid fell over in a slippery playground.

I'm not even sure now what I want to say apart from the world and media has gone bloody mad
I have lived for 66 years and never known it any different apart from the schedule D notices we used to have. Same type of controversey with comedians in the 20s 30s 40 s etc. These people have well rehearsed acts they are not off the cuff comments and standing on a stage in front of an audience insulting people is hardly a one to one in the street.

Thought you would.

I know a televised comedian is not me in the street ... but what the hell makes them so newsworthy today?

Wasn't comedy in the 20s, 30s and 40s just that? Comedy? Meant for stage or theatre? Certainly not the lengthy and nit picking articles in today's press or gutter press. If somebody criticised sombody else's work in the past, it was just a criticism or an observation. Now it has to be given a title of racism or non PC or some such such. It would seem that nobody is allowed anymore to say "personally, I think it's crap."

My understanding was that he was paid 6 mil to make a series. That doesn't mean he gets 6 mil in his back pocket.

JR isn't hugely to my tase, but obviously a LOT of people watch his show or he wouldn't have got another contract.

I suspect people are so jealous of his 'pay' that they have to put him down. There's a lot of people out there got paid as much to make a series, and I'd rather watch JR, to be honest.

I think jealosy justifiably turns to anger when ppl see the sort of money thats thrown away on some of these talentless scumbags, just as with bank managers paid ridiculous bonuses for leading us to ruin.
Are we so devoid of talent these days that these are the best on offer ?
When I see the pathetic shower of todays so-called stand-ups, I wonder how much those brilliant natural talents from the old Comedian series and earlier could have earned these days.

It´s called taste or more to the point a lack of it. I did not realise that he was paid so much it makes the Guardian article mentioned earlier a bigger joke than it already was.

I know I should not but I get so angry at times.

The little fat fella who reads the horoscopes? He's harmless enough surely?

The problem with people like Ross and Brand are they become legends in their own minds when in reality they are distasteful people.

Sir Brand, I may not agree with the nasty crap you are spouting, but I'll defend to the death your right to spout nasty crap.

I suppose I owe the past philosopher who said those words much more eloquently an apology.

So, why is all this spite directed at RB & JR ? They must draw viewers or they would never get work.

Jamie Oliver, because he has the wit to own his own production company makes a lot of money for producing what is basically 'just another cooking programme'.

Should he be criticised because he is getting all that money?

Are you the only one who has forgotten that disgusting stunt with Manuel from Fawlty Towers ?

Anyone who is desperate enough to have to sink as low as that in the name of entertainment has got to be the ultimate pits of society.
I suppose it's also a fair insight into the workings of their sick minds.

There are any number of ppl making money out of boring cookery programmes but I have yet to see any of them sink to those depths of depravity.
