No way Matt. Head - not heart - talking, Wales will do Fiji and I wouldn't bet against them against Australia in Cardiff. It's a big ask but if there's going to be a shock result between the Home Nations and the Big Southern 3 & France, then I'd say this would be it. Don't see England beating SA but even if they did it wouldn't be a huge shock, Scotland won't even be able to touch NZ and I don't see France losing to Ireland in Stade de France. Quarter Final exit for Wales UNLESS they get England in which case it could go either way.

Italy would indeed find it difficult to qualify from that group........given that they are in Pool C!!! But I think you meant France Ireland and Argentina and yes it is a tough group. Ireland had a scrappy 6 nations and have not fulfilled the potential of 12-18 months ago. Build up has been bad for them and they are not helped by having Argentina in their group. Could very easily go out.

What a twat!!!
I meant Argentina!!

I think in terms of play ability then Wales have the edge over Fiji, but if Fiji can take the game to Wales and push them hard the fitness issue will fail them, that's what I feel anyway
There is no way England are going to do much at all, potentially they will meet Australia in the knockout stage and I cant see them putting one over on them.

Might regret this - and I'm sure you'll save this to haunt me come September - but Wales will comfortably walk past Fiji. They just don't have the skill for the 15 man game. Wales will play it tight for the most part using our big, beer-belliied forwards to overpower their wirey, nippy buggers.

England will be hoping to face Wales in the quarters - as are we. Two ways for this - beat SA or hope Wales beat Australia. Both tall orders but not impossible.

No wind up intended but NZ have got a fairly easy route to the final and if they don't get there then they've only themselves to blame. A quarter against Ireland or Argentina then a semi against familiar opposition in Aus or Eng (or maybe Wales ) France too have a fairly easy run with a quarter against Italy or Scotland then a semi against SA or Wales. This has got France v NZ Final written all over it.

NZ have definitely got the easier pool, there is no doubt, cant see any of those teams causing a problem, the problem will come when they play their first Qualli, if Ireland put one over on France and NZ meet France........I'm not sure, have seen it happen before and not looking good.

Incidentally, Tim Rodber has moved into my village, sat in the pub in an AB top the other night having a pint with him and talking about the RWC!

Now that was weird, I have spoken to some seriously informed people about rugby before but to talk to a former England and Lions player was an experience.

I will do this tonight as I may not get a chance tomorrow, as you will all know, the rugby starts on Friday, today, and it will be a hard won cup this year, there are many teams who deserve the title as the best team.............then there is France.

As all will know by now, as far as I am concerned the All Blacks will win, and to illustrate just how good they are at the moment....................................Enjoy.

Re: Rugby Thread

Here we go!!!!!!!! At Last!!! It's here. Will France slip up tonight???????? Will USA cause a shock that will cause much mirth to followers not English born????? Don't care!!! Rugby fest just hours away.

Speaing to the powers that be on this board to get a game started across the boards but there's been no movement on it as Paul has been busy so in the meantime I'll run the game on a smaller scale on this thread. No experience necessary and it's a bit of fun:

Rugby World Cup '07 Predicition Game

Here's a bit of fun for everybody and a bit of inter-board competition. Absolutely no knowledge of rugby is necessary (although it stands to reason that a basic idea of the strengths of the teams would help) and it should be fun.

Quite simply, on a week by week basis you will be asked to predict the winners, score and winning margin of each game. If you think it will be a draw - for those with little knowledge, draws are not as regular an occurance in Rugby as they are in Football - then predict the draw, the score and the winning margin would of course be 0.

Scoring would be marked thus:

Correct Winning Team or Draw = 5pts
Correct Result Score = 10pts
Correct Winning Margin = 7pts

So for example:

Eng v Fra .... = ENG WIN .... 22-18....MARGIN 4pts

If the actual result was indeed that of the example you would win 22pts = 5pts for prediciting Eng win, 7pts for predicting the 4 point winning margin and 10pts for correctly prediciting the result score.

If the final score was England win 26-22, then you score 12pts (5pts for Eng Win, 7pts for Margin).
If the score was France win 26-22, then you can still score 7pts for correctly predicting the winning margin despite getting the score and winner wrong.

There a lots of ways to score points so the playing field is levelled out a bit.

Below are the first week's games. Either copy and paste or simply quote to enter your predictions in reply to this thread. For those new to the sport, one, two and four points are impossible to score in rugby.

Have fun and we'll see who's King (or Queen) of the Board. After the first week I'll post league tables to show who's leading in each section of the board, which section of the board is doing the best and who's the overall leader.

To help you with your predicitions, this website has the latest odds on all participating nations. http://www.online-betting-guide.co.u...orld-Cup!2.htm

Statistics don't lie.......... even coming from an Englishman like me......

Australia have never lost to NZ in a RWC match
Australia have won every RWC match they have ever played in the Northern Hemisphere
Australia have won both of the RWC tournaments held in the NH
Australia's biggest margin of defeat - ever - in an RWC match is 9 points.

They will be ready, and assuming they can overcome the disgraceful decision to make them play Wales in cardiff, will come through the QFs against (probably) my lot, and then it's NZ again in the SFs. Refer above-mentioned stats.

A ludicrously overrated Ireland to miss out from the 3-into-2-won't-go Pool D (the Argies will beat them, and may even surprise France tonight).

France-Australia final - too close to call.
