As Concierge for the Spanish section of BE I would like to say hello and welcome.

BE is a very large expat website, so if you have problems finding your way around we have concierges who will try to direct you. The moderators for the Spanish forums are Mitzyboy and Fred James, moderators are there to ensure that the site runs smoothly within the rules of BE. Problems and complaints should always be addressed to a moderador who will look into the matter and deal with it efficiently and fairly. Our members who post in the Spain Forums are friendly and helpful with a wealth of knowledge of the issues of living in Spain. At the top of the page you will find a quirkily named thread called Free Beer which is full of important and useful information. Hope you enjoy your time participating in the forums.

Please let me know if you need any further help.

Hi Dangle51,
How far have you got on looking at moving?
We have talked about it for some months now and have now decided to do it.
We have only just started to look at property prices etc. and are going to Lanzarote in March where we will look at some properties.
Hoping for a reply and any help you might be able to give.
Dave and Deb

Well Dave & Deb, I understand that serious health problems have to be dealt with on Tenerife. But having said that it is IMHO by far the most civilized and cleanest island in the Canaries. I would advise that you investigate every bit of the island before you buy, my gut feeling would be to try to find something on the outskirts of Arrecife.

Good luck in your efforts.

Fair comment.

I would imagine there is still a good social scene on both of those islands, however as far as a permanent residence is concerned Tenerife has very much more scope and points of interest, in addition to having easy ferry access to four other islands.

In total contrast most points of interest on Lanzarote can be covered in little more than a week and the only other island with easy access is Fuerteventura which is pretty much the nearest thing to hell IMHO.

When you say 'retired', does that mean you are of pensionable age? If so then you need to get your S1 sorted out via DWP.

If not (early retiree), then you also need to get your S1 sorted but FAST as they are closing the doors on this on 31st March 2014.
