Got to endorse that. We have wanted to go the Indonesian meal for ages now and he has been booked out each time. Last night he squashed us in on a table for six and were we lucky the food was just superb. All the spices and flavours but nothing too hot, the weather here is hot enough at night at the moment!
I particularly liked the mango curry which with the hard boiled egg was excellent. The chef is a local Dutch lady who has lived in Portugal for 20 years the last 12 in Monte Fransisco but clearly as many Dutch have has spent some time in the East Indies colonies to learn to cook that well. Luis is so proud of his new TV SYSTEM a Meo box with over 400 channels including all the six Sky sports channels so last night we had first day of the U.S. Open on the big screen and Portugal beating England on the 42" screen in the corner. Some tables had to be reset so it's best to book and don't expect a quiet evening the Esuri crowd were animated but the Dutch matched them so the volume was high giving a great atmosphere and a super evening for everyone. Sunday's buffet lunch is also full so best to give Luis a ring. With the decision to close at lunch except Sunday's the three theme evenings, Wednesday curry, Thursday Indonesian and Friday BBQ are sure to be busy so he is thinking of opening at lunch on Saturdays in the summer season but that is to be confirmed.:thumbsup: |
Re: Restaurants

My previous concerns about 19H and Luis were just that - concerns from a supporter who was worried that with the crisis, things might get worse. THANKFULLY they haven't. Cant wait to try it all! Great news.... thanks for the updates Jon |
Re: Restaurants
Things keep getting better here in Ayamonte!
El Clavel (spelling) a new bar restaurant in the old Barclays Bank building on Plaza Laguna is now open for drinks only until Saturday. They will then celebrate with an opening party pay for drinks food gratis from 20.00. Went to a pre-opening taster evening 10 days ago and the "tapas" were fantastic but then you would expect high quality food since the proprietor is the same people who have the English shop ACM. THE MINI CUMBERLAND SAUSAGES WERE AWSOME. The full menu will be available next week. |

Re: Restaurants
Hi
I found this interesting article about food + resto's in Andalusia (no commercial interest - just on their mailing list). With some interesting facts e.g surprisingly (for me) the Spanish spend more per head on food than the rest of EU.. hmmmmm..... Eating on the Costa del Sol | Food on the Costa del Sol Happy eatin' Jon PS the link says costs del sol... but this is more of a general article about Andalusia.. also check out the links on the right of the main article |
Re: Restaurants
Hi Jon
Whilst not denying the information in this article, please note that it is an advertorial by an Estate agency. |

Whilst not denying the information in this article, please note that it is an advertorial by an Estate agency. I agree its why I was clear that there was no commercial connection with the site.. and was dubious about the comment that the Spanish spend more per head. Also there was some 'negative stuff' in the article eg (quote) The growing influence of the expatriate community in the Costa del Sol has impacted upon the traditionally sedate pace of life in Andalucia: traffic jams, morning rushes, school runs, long lines – jams, rushes, runs and lines – not the greatest cultural import, but a necessary evil in this increasingly competitive world of ours. Which added a bit of credence to the article.. but overall I think its an interesting read... and all will realise its part of an overall marketing activity and will take that into account. Happy eating Jon |
Re: Restaurants
Hi, for all of you who were sad with the demise of the local Indian in Lotita Square, you can all smile again. The property is undergoing refurbishment and I can only assume ( because of the design on the doors waiting to be fitted )that it is going to be another Indian, regards Bryony.

Sincere apologies to all of you out there who were on the edge of your seats in anticipation of a new Indian Restaurant in Ayamonte. It looks as though the doors were a 'red herring' & Luz liver was correct in saying it was going to be a Telepizza. Another one to join all the other Pizza places in Ayamonte, :(
We enjoy a good pizza from time to time, but after trying a couple in Ayamonte a few years back, we never ate pizza again in Spain/Portugal. Unlikely we will either. We haven't tried the one you mentioned previously just up from the theater, though, so perhaps I shouldn't tar them all with the same brush with my 'dis-consolation' over them. However ... this year overall good news on the resto thread, e.g new place on Laguna, Luis and 19H etc.... So looking forward to maintaining/augmenting the big-belly on the next trip! :) Jon |
Re: Restaurants
We ate at El Clavel whilst over and it was really good - the food was lovely, the prices were good and the service was excellent every time we went - roll on October xxxxx
