What a shame - one of the best chef's in the area. Also always very open to feedback for the menu's etc.
End of an era and part of the 'CE/Ayamonte story'
Lets hope the club works out... but with family spread out - that's tough indeed.
Not the best start for 2015.
But Happy New Year to all - anyway

Just finished our Three Kings lunch at Cacadores (the wooden waiter) in Monte Fransisco. It was fabulous the food was great as ever the prices are just unbelievable and the best bit today PEDRO is now working full time as the house waiter/translator since some of the cloquial names for the dishes fox us but we don't want to miss all the house specialities!

Hi John, Happy New Year to you and Kath. Am I right in thinking you are talking about Pedro from the golf club? If so I'd say that was the GC loss and Cacadores gain. Can you tell me where Cacadores is in MF please as it sounds like somewhere we should try next time we're over.
Thanks
Andy

They will learn that it was a big mistake to relieve Pedro of his duties at the golf club. We were in the golf club last nite. We went to eat but it was so cold inside we didn't bother, Even the staff had wolly hats and scarve's on.

Hi In this post I mentioned MONTE FRANCISCO (MF) and its great social scene - for such a small town. Amazing that they can have so much more than CE for such a small place.

Attached a map/plan of all the restos, mentioned in that post, once you get into MF. (1st exit of M'way; head away from VRSA towards Beja; Turn left at first junction posted MF and where the Map 'starts')
Note Ive also shown the 'back road' to Altura - we often take it to get to P-Verde or the 125 towards Altura on the 125 as its scenic and a nice drive, only maybe 5 mins more to get there) - nicer than the m-way:
I can strongly recommend the salmon at Cacadores with boiled potatoes, in general their fish is really well cooked and tasty.... and they have a filling and varied set of dishes of the day written on a post-it on the menu. Apparently their chocolate mousse is great too (not my thing)
Note also that 'Old Luis' also does great and fresh, inexpensive, meals - also its a cosy place to organise a 'do' and I'm sure you'll find the management very open to a 'deal' for a party of friends. We often go there for a meal or even a pre/post drink around eating. They also have social events at weekends. Amazing prices (e.g went with a friend had 6x 33cl beers and 3 large wines... total Eur 7.80!!) The visit to MF with friends easily pays for the taxi fare of Eur 10 each way - once you take the prices into consideration and makes a nice change from CE .... errrr... and Spain!) Closed all day Monday
The snack/resto opposite the cacadores is relatively new, has a full menu - but we havernt tried it yet, going always to Cacadores.
We rarely have dinner - as we LTL (Like to Lunch) so Luis' resto is now out for us - except for the Sunday lunches... as of late last year he stopped opening at mid-day. (He is closed all Monday)
My BH likes the Solar Panel resto - (closed Tuesdays I think) as its like going into a sort of family home and they serve only 'home-food' dishes of the day all - with desert + coffee + wine in for about 8-9 Euros... and Bacalahau a la bras to order anytime. The owner Teresa speaks French so we can chat.
Happy New Year!
Jon
PS EsuriJohn postede the GPS coordinates of Luis somewhere - but my searching skills on the forum aren't up to it. This map should make it easy, I hope

Tomorrow will be the start of Sunday buffet 12.30 until 18.30 with the usual excellent all in menu at €11.99

Found a new Cafe/Bar in Monte Gordo and thought you might like to know that tonight and every Friday night is Piri Piri Chicken night.
The name is the BLUE PARROT located right next to the Casa Blanca Hotel. The first sitting at 6pm is already booked up but there is still room left at the later sitting. Mention my name to Lucy and she will try to fit you in but you must book on oo 351 968 18o o28.
We had an early lunch yesterday and I have found at last an equal to Willy's for the best all day breakfast around. HID had a healthy Goat's cheese salad and the menu has lots of lunch time choices

Quiz night restarted tonight.
The food choice was Chicken Tikka Masala or Fish and Chips. I didnt eat, but when the plates came back from about 20 people I only saw 2 chips that were not eaten from all the plates.

As far as we can work out it does not formally close. Several couples that we know have arrived after 15.00 and although empty they have seated and the ovens cranked up to produce a full meal. Although Pedro does have a couple hours off late afternoon the family do seem to be on duty from 12.30 till close after 22.00
