Hi Sandra. Laguna square, the square with the town hall. New cafe bar in the corner. :)

It has been open for some days and is apparently a fish bar. I forgot to have a look this morning, I was enjoying my breakfast and chat too much and forgot when I set off home.

Sad news
Fu Li Dou ,the Chinese restaurant in Ayamonte is closing at the end of the month!

The best waiter in Ayamonte and the nicest person you could ever meet , "Long Way James" is working his last week.
We both wish him, his lovely wife and beautiful daughter the very best of luck in the future.

Disappointed. Was at the 19thhole last night. There was four of us.Thought we would support the restaurant. We had been several times for drinks, and had no problems.A great location, and a place we certainly need to succeed. The food was way under par excuse the pun,and two of the main dishes we could not eat.To be fair the cost was taken off the bill.which was still quite expensive. We also had to move downstairs because of the mossie problem.I hope they do get it right as we need the 19th hole to succeed.
p.s the staff were great.

What a shame, it seemed busy enough. James + family always gave us a good welcome when we were there....

Re 19H... looks like they still need regular trips to the dentist, for their teething problems!! Speaking like the true capitalist that I am, lets hope the GC will offer a good alternative, and more importantly cause 19H to improve, when they are no longer a monopoly. I really want to see choice in CE - which we have the population to support IMO. As long as we have experienced hospitality management to drive a proper customer-focused formula.

I remain cautiously 'interested' (dare not say 'optimistic') in La Cabra opening up above the 'local'. That would be great!

Good luck to James + family, seconded by us.

Jon

We went to the 19th hole twice last week and both times had the fresh fish which was excellent.

I think it's very 'hit and miss'. Some friends and I have been for lunch a couple of times & its been ok, went a few days ago and the chef hadn't arrived so we were asked to choose something easy from the menu as Lilian was going to make it herself. Had a toasted ham and cheese, and to help her out, crisps instead of fries. Toastie was fine with an added salad garnish, crisps had obviously been open for a while as they were stale and soft. I have only been once for a restaurant meal with a group of friends and 1/2 of us had a good meal and the others had an average-ish meal and we also had to scavenge side plates and cutlery from the other (unoccupied) tables.

I know they have asked for tips on how to make it better and one of them was to greet their customers as they arrived rather that just sit around and wait until they have settled at a table but they really do need to up their game especially with the prices they charge and the fact that they will have competition very soon. Regards Bryony

Re Sunday Lunch,

7 of us went to Restaurant Boutique (the old Argentinean on the hill)yesterday, after being told by the English shop that it was starting Sunday lunches, it was three courses for €12, choice of starter, main, and dessert, and was excellent,7 empty plates after each course, plates piping hot,two large dishes of vegetables:carrots, sliced green beans, cauliflower, done perfect not cooked to a pulp?,the place was full most of the day,and has the terrace to enjoy drinks before and after your meal, service and attention to detail was also just right.

Will defiantly be going back and thanks for a great day,

Ken

That's good news I was concerned before that they had overpriced and even 'given up' a bit and focused more on their beach resto, after a group of us had a mixed experience there. Good food and service from the staff but no management back up at the time and on booking.

Will definitely try the Sunday lunch there.

Good to see improvements all around... Also heard there was a new steak on the stone resto as well.

We have a lot of catching up to do been to both of the above and they are for now amongst the best. The beef (KATH) and the pork (me) were super on Sunday and the vegetables were superb, cooked just enough and no more with a hint of butter on the beans & carrots.

The new steak on the stone was my birthday treat from KATH (she had been before) but my first time and I was not disappointed the family then found it independently for tapas and insisted we go again with them and they were great tapas.

YESSSSSSSSSSSS!! This sounds great... improvements all over the area... and some nice rumours too! And resto's (finally?) waking up to customer demand/service! Also PROPER veg too, something that I personally find to be a bit of a problem in both Spain/Portugal (in general)

Looking good... lets 'catch up' at all of them :) Hey maybe one day we can do that on the Eurocities bus !:fingerscrossed:
