Lets agree to disagree ..... even a year of having the possibility to eat or drink on that lovely terrace is positive. As is having more choices. With a Spanish bias too perhaps.I hope so - but will await the menu.
I will take a cautionary and contrary response to your comments however: Remember there are (at least) 2 sides to the story and a majority had to vote between the choices they had. Its not possible that the majority of the villa owners are racist - not at all. I think that words like 'racist' are extremely hurtful. We tend to over exaggerate e.g 'that guy is a nazi', 'I'm starving' etc. etc Even on this wider forum Brexiteers were all branded as racists, on several occasions. IMO this was contrary to the site rules, and potentially very hurtful. But the posts weren't deleted. Anyway looking forward to our next LLL!! :amen: Jon I am obviously getting different reports on the bar snacks to you, they’d really supposedly tasty and very adequate portions. That is mostly from golfers who after 18 holes might be hungry enough to eat a scabby dog |

Not sure the Hoya 19 is good news I’ll give it a year at most. There were better offers that were rejected in my view on racist grounds. |

Re: Restaurants
Very sad indeed ,if from what I heard was a very strong bid for hoyo 19 was not given a fair chance due to the fact he wasn’t local. I have a feeling it may be a decision which will be regretted as the deadline which I understand was a critical factor now seems unlikely. |

As has been said about your comment, there are two sides to every story, but I can assure you that you have received the incorrect one John

Re: Restaurants
19h is a big event for CE. So emotions and RUMOURS abound
Community meetings are often rowdy affairs. In fact not so long ago there was a punch up at one. Proxy votes are fully legal if managed properly. I believe that these were properly counted - if that's what someone who lives there says on a public forum. We get info and messages second hand, often from friends - unless, as in this case, we were villa owners voting. However I personally would not ''shoot the messenger' -a friend- but would discount any suggestion of ''racism" in a majority vote. My messenger-friend and I could never agree on this. Sounds like a sour loser to me to drop to this level. Some may say insulting - even. I also hope there wasnt any attempt to nullify the proxy vote which went against some people who -basically- lost. The key to this is how properly was the proxy process was managed. If no-one can counter the post above that says it was good then its the 'End of the story' On a more general point: I am not a fan of a block proxy indefinitely. Literally an AGM and EGM are either annual or rare occurrences. So in my view one has to give the proxy each time with my voting preferences for each point. My proxy is required to vote according to this even though s/he disagrees on any point. This is how we do it in our place in Belgium. Lets See how this pans out, I hear there is an EGM coming soon. Anything can happen!! Jon |

My impression was that the majority of comments were negative. A good friend (regular CE golfer) with whom we both met a couple of weeks ago posted asking how difficult it is to do something like sausage and chips. To be fair we also had esteemed ex permanent residents visiting who gave it a good recommendation. The GC is expensive, so I would like to see good quality too for most of the time Jon |
Re: Restaurants
Hi Jon, hopefully you were meaning Mike & me when you referred to 'esteemed ex permanent residents' ;). If not :( If so, yes we had a very nice lunch there. 3 of us had tuna salad (which was huge) & Mike had the Angus Burger which looked and tasted delicious. It was served quite quickly but we were the only ones eating & they don't involve much cooking (just grilling a burger & frying an egg). Maybe the choice will be bigger in the Summer months, regards Bryony. |

Of course I was referring to you both :) With the experiences you have in CE+ surroundings, you know your onions (pun intended :) ) So your positive feedback of the GC added good balance to the food discussion. Good to see you still popping up on the forum.... Jon |
Re: Restaurants
There were a few different candidates for running Hoyo19. The one who has been chosen has been selected in a totally legal way.
He will do bar, snack and restaurant. There will be sports on TV, both Spanish and English. I understood he will make a room with snooker, babyfoot and darts. He will also re-open the swimming-pool, but a little bit later. There also will be a shop and bike renting. Knowing the offer which is currently available in Costa Esuri, I think this is more than positive!... |
Re: Restaurants
I am glad to confirm that today the contract for a new tenant was signed. Hoyo 19 will reopen on the 15th of June.
This is going to be a social club, with restaurant, snack bar, pool, TV to watch the world cup, a gourmet shop, push bikes for rental and organised day summer camps for children (this will take place in Punta del Moral) , pool table, futbolin. There will be exhibitions from different artists and you will be able to celebrate parties there, if so you wish. The menu is going to be a classic spanish menu and also a vegan menu. For 3 years, since we bought our house, I have heard everyone and everywhere that there is not enough facilities in Esuri. Finally it seems like we are going to get more and more interest in the area and more investment into local businesses. I hope people support all the businesses we are getting and keep all these new restaurants opening in the area so we can have choices! I can't wait to sit in the terrace and have a drink and eat my dinner without having to drive into Ayamonte! Rosa |

I can't wait to sit in the terrace and have a drink and eat my dinner without having to drive into Ayamonte! Rosa The terrace is great and we would go there previously even if we were the only customers to enjoy a drink/meal and that fantastic view. We once had the best fish dishes ever there and the BH lost a bet about the bill as she thought the price quoted was for each person, but actually it was for us both! I hope the pricing will be good, and not too crazy. Perhaps between the 'local' (=shop) and the GC. We've had many a good time at the two incarnations of this club! As we've had at the local+GC of course. I am particularly pleased to see a Spanish menu, and though not a vegan am glad that they are catering for them - one of my best friends is making a transfer from Veggie to vegan. The true wonder of a bacon sarnie, could never make me convert :) :drinkingwine: :cake: If anyone has read my posts (particularly on the resto thread) they will know that Ive been very keen on a Spanish option in CE. With e.g fry-ups and other UK food served at the GC and the shop, and also a large Spanish community, this may also be a chance to build better bridges with the 2 main communities in CE. :drinkingpals: My BH believes that one main advantage of the crisis was that we only had the GC at the start, in the early days, meaning that there was only one place to go, and thus we met some amazing people - who like us - really only had one local option. Our social life in CE is the best I've had worldwide - with many friends made from those early (heady?) days! Now that we've settled in I am so glad to see that in a short time we will have 2 new choices with the 19H and the new fusion resto that Esurijohn recently posted about with the roof up, the placed sealed and ready for the final stages of construction. Add that local option (walkable) to the plethora of choices within 30 mins- in two countries (Car/Taxi) - we have some excellent options. Often the (e.g) taxi cost is easily made up by the better pricing in many 2-country options. The extra services provided by the new 19H are interesting too... However, as I mentioned sometime previously - it would be be great if we had one site on CE that would handle Amazon pickups. It is simply not feasible for us to have a package delivery where we live - as the incoming post-boxes are all outside. I am pretty sure that Amazon also pay for this - so it may be a chance for some extra revenue. I was planning on asking Amalia or the GC if they could offer this. Now I have potentially 2 new options.:xmaspressie: So.... Bienvenido a Costa Esuri - and good luck to the new team :welcome: Jon |

Tell me Im not dreaming!:) This would be great and lets hope :fingerscrossed: that Lolo will get permission. Package delivery is a big problem for anybody in apartments with the security fence around, and no guard. On simply cant leave boxes outside. Thanks also for confirming the details and sharing his name, Lolo. I look forward to introducing myself to him on opening day. Once we have the times of opening (if you have a moment), please let us know. Cant wait! How does that song go 'things can only get better'! Jon |

Brilliant news that work has actually on hoyo. The very best of luck to all . I am however slightly confused as to whether it’s a restaurant or a Sandwich Bar and what exactly is a gaming room are we talking pool tables and arcade games . Excuse my ignorance if I’m picking this up all wrong ? |
Re: Restaurants
Or poker & craps? And what happened to the Punta Umbria beach club or the bicycle hire and the Olympic swimming pool? |

Re: Restaurants
UPDATE ON O FORTE at Castro Marim. It seems that since Jon bxl was there in March they have dropped the buffet. Apparently not enough business / too much wasteage. Its still called a buffet resto on the menu but it isn't. I had sardines, - five tiny ones, OH had salmon- huge portion but undercooked, friends had a mixed grill for two. Presentation excellent but food average. Massive platter of starters /olives/bread seemed impressive but add it all up and its 21 euros. Sunday lunch came to 70 odd euros plus drinks. Not to be recommended at this point. Otherwise immaculately clean and pretty inside.

Good feedback thanks. It's dropping down on the list now. The better buffet option is A Favela in Altura, a bit less personal there but unlimited meat!
Jon We wont be back for a while but hope to try Favela again but earlier in the evening. Along with two trips to A Chamine and an enjoyable meal at O Pescador a very pleasant trip. |

I think now with hindsight (thanks) that perhaps A Favela is better (out of season) at weekends when there are more customers, a better turnover of fresher food. But as I mentioned in the first post I suggest that we pick up the non-hot items early as these can run out and not always replaced with the same. Great that you had some good food, and of course A Chamine is a favourite of yours. You reminded me that its been ages since we went. Something we will rectify very soon! Jon |
Re: Restaurants
Esuri Golf Club have employed another cook. There maybe be a wider choice of food starting next week |
Re: Restaurants
Hi Guesswork,
Please keep us updated on this as I have family out there in a week or two and it would be good to know what they can look forward to - or not. |
Re: Restaurants
Just a reminder... The Ayamonte Tapas trail is on in June. With the footy dominating for me, I haven't tried any yet. :(
If anyone has had something memorable, please let us know Jon PS we also have the Cataplana month in CM, Altura etc as posted earlier... |

Re: Restaurants
Maybe it is being run basically for golfers so I doubt they will still be playing at that time of night. It could also be because there are not enough people wanting to eat there (could change next month when more people are on holiday). Lastly it could be that people prefer to go into Ayamonte or elsewhere for a meal ( I know we did when we lived there). Regards Bryony |
