Erm, pretty difficult subject to bring up really, this should probably be put on the Plaza de torros section. I know it's highly offensive to some people, and totally racialist, but I wonder if you would, sort of, give it some consideration. If that's OK by you. I Know I will be upsetting the mods again but here goes. Just running it up the flagpole see if anybody salutes. If you're against it, just say and I'll withdraw the request.
Can I please open a thread to celebrate St.Georges day ?
No pressure.

By all means Sir......Though, if the point is to be 'Patriotic'....I would have thought a celebration of St Bede would have been more appropriate considering his attachment with England rather than some 'Foreign' gentleman? Eh?

Yes, I'm all for it.
Suppose we'll have to keep it a low key affair for fear of upsetting all those others who lay claim to him, especially those guys down in Alcoy who have been putting on one hell of a show these past few days.
I reckon St George must have been a bit of a lad to have spread himself around so many different countries, I keep running into his followers all over the place from the Med to the N.of Europe.

For me St Georges day was always important because in my senior school for conpetitions we were split into 4 groups, St Patrick, St Andrew, St George and St David. The selection of who went where was nothing to do with who you were etc.
I was in the St Georges group so of course I still remember the day.

What's the problem?
Sant Jordi/San Jorge is celebrated all over Spain, he's patron saint of Catalonia and lots of smaller towns and villages. Plus everyone called Jorge or Jordi is celebrating their santo.
Shame the English don't get the day off, like we do here. But that's England for you, work is more important than celebrating dead saints.

Newcastle as well so I heard, hence the term Geordie, but I believe they just take the day of whenever they feel like it.
