Hi all,
We are trying to work through the process of owning property in Spain.
Can any of our members shed any light on the nominal tax that is paid annually, known as Renta, even if you don't actually rent out a property. Is it a tax that varies in different areas.
We would greatly appreciate any advice on this.

Renta == income tax
What I think you are referring to is Imputed Rental Tax. This is based on the Cadastral value of the property.

As has been mentioned, it is based on the cadastral value (like the old rateable value in the UK). Depending on wwhen this value was last updated, will define what percentage will be the imputed value. For my place it is 1.1% to give the imputed value. This imputed value is then taxed (last year it was at 24.75% but I believe this year this has been lowered). This will be the tax you have to pay for that particular year. FYI, my small house, the tax due for 2014 was 43 euros.
If you have your IBI bill, you will find the cadastral reference for your property, and can obtain the value from that number.

As of 2014, our Catastral value = €9361.88. 1.1% of that = €102.98. We jointly own the house so we pay half each on this imputed revenue = €51.49. 2014 tax rate was 24% so our tax bill was €12.36 each. We do the return online:-
