If you have a Spanish health card then you go to the local INSS office with your card and they will issue a EHIC on the spot.

Travel insurance means that you can have private treatment for emergencies and covers all the usual other risks, baggage, cancellation and, heaven forbid - repatriation to Spain - alive or dead!

Thank you so much for all your replies and links etc.It IS confusing isnÂ´t it??I will have a good read through and get myself sorted out!! Also extend my travel insurance cover I think!
