Recording TV
Our cheapo DVD recorder broke last time we were in Spain. Had to dust off our VHS!!
I wanted to buy a new box and take it out with me. Not sure what to buy.
Bearing in mind I don't want to go down the PC route.
Is my only option a Freesat box that records (ie one with PVR) - and should this work ok in Spain? I assume Freesat is not just in the UK?
Most of these boxes seem to be very restrictive in terms of how you record, ie it has to be live TV. Not sure they allow recording from another source, say from an HDMI input. Which means you can't transfer stuff from your camcorder.
Any advice much appreciated. Was hoping to pay £100 max.

Re: Recording TV
I would first determine if you still have a satellite signal, South of Alicante could be borderline depending just how far South you are.

Re: Recording TV
Yes it will work in SPain, as long as your dish is large enough to receive those signals.
"South of Alicante" - a dish of at least 125x135cm is required to receive the majority of channels on Freesat.
A Freesat+ box (ie recordable) costs more than £100 new - cheapest is around £125.
Most satellite receivers will only allow you to record from the satellite source, not from another source.

Re: Recording TV
Thanks for your help.
Have spoken to our neighbours - the signal is still ok (Rojales area, near Torrevieja). It's a communal dish.
So I will buy a Freesat box in the UK and take it with me.
On the question of what you can record. I suppose the need to transfer camcorder material to an video/hdd recorder is not so common now, because of PCs etc.

We view UK tv using Freesat and have a Samsung SMT S7800 receiver. Its very much like a Sky box - can record two channels at once, series link, e.p.g etc. Recommended!
