Twyntub is right !! Just go for it and don't be shy...the Spanish are not snooty about you getting it wrong like the French.
I am improving all the time, and don't live in Spain permanently. I use a mix of books, internet, a beginners one week crash course at the Cervantes Institute in London, and Michel Thomas. Some people find his voice sleep inducing, but I find the trick is to listen in the car. He does have a knack of making your remember things and is best for practical usage. The CDS can usually be found on E-bay. And make sure you learn Castillano and not the impenetrable Andaluz accent!
