Presenting myself
Hello all,
i am not british, but swedish, and i am an expat in panama where i live with my panamanian wife. We are thinking about moving to spain in a few years, since we cant fins good education for our two children here, and we dont want to send them to USA. Since all of us are bilingual english/spanish i dont see a problem with the language barrier. I would like to know if any of you are married to a non EU citizen, and how the documentation worked out when you moved to spain. I have read on the spanish imigration web site that a non EU citizen married to a EU citizen, can get a living permit, and also aply for a work permit. Any one with experience in this? cheers and thanks Nick |
Re: Presenting myself
Hi Nick.
It is no longer a problem since the law about residencia changed recently. The (non EU) wife and family of an EU citizen can apply for a residents card with the almost same formalities that you will do to get your certificate of residency. |
Re: Presenting myself
Thank you very much for a fast answer.

Re: Presenting myself
Actually, my father is retired and lives half the year in Ibiza. i spent all my summers there from the day i was born until i was 24. During those years i met a whole bunch of British expats, and they were a wonderful caleidiscope of personalities, and yes, some odd balls too.

Re: Presenting myself
Wow, allready 3 pages! you guys type fast.
The panama hat that you refer to is actually not very panamanian at all. The local hats, or Sombrero Pintado (Paintad hat), look like the one you are refering to, but has colored weaved into it in circles. It is worn with the front up, displaing that the user is happy and pleased, if the user has the back part turned up, there is a problem, of some kind in his life. They cost about 40 US. The ditch will be made wider, adding 2 more locks, work is supose to start this year. We do have a real estate boom, with mostly gringos, and south americans buying VERY flashy condos and villas in and around Panama City. There are a few europeans, but since the travel time is long, there arent that many investing right now. We are all expeting a big influx of the baby boomers in the next 5 years or so... Other than that, every thing is as usual, hot, wet and humid! We are now in winter time, which means it rains almost every day for 1 hour or 2. In the summer its dry, but the year round temperature is around 30 degrees celcius. please let me know if you have more questions. Anyone owning a bar in spain, that would like to share some of the pit falls, either by Pm on forum, or by e mail. I have thought about a bar as a business when we move. nick |
