Domino sorry I wasn't trying to lecture you mate just when you mentioned being able to purchase the large tablets without prescription passing on word of warning nothing more.

Yes as I said ALL drugs have side effects. Read an article about how many are taking statins and they can do more harm than good.

But someone in UK in your situation, ie pensioner, been taking the medicine for a long time, why would they need to buy it, no matter how cheap it is? As a pensioner, everything is free, they would have a repeat prescription set up, so just keep picking up free medicines as needed. Ours is all done via internet, order repeat scripts online, go down to chemist where it's there waiting for you. And when you say UK, of course in some parts all medicines are free for everyone and very few people pay for scripts anyway. I know everything is cheap as chips in Spain, but you can't get cheaper than free.

I was being facetious, that's not the way I ever find it either, but most on here tell me everything is cheaper! 
Personally I don't pay private medical insurance, neither do I pay a penny for prescriptions. Just been for a dental check up, 2 x-rays, quick polish, cost nil. My Spanish friend here has just had a baby with the NHS (full of praise, by the way) now enjoying her paid maternity leave, she's having 6 months, her husband three months. She's also just had treatment with her NHS dentist, removal of wisdom teeth, she thinks she's died and gone to heaven.
Indeed I quoted you recently as telling us before about how expensive medicines can be in Spain. But people never mention those things, or the cost of private medical insurance, they only remember to tell us the meds that you can buy over the counter cheaper than a UK script.
Personally I don't pay private medical insurance, neither do I pay a penny for prescriptions. Just been for a dental check up, 2 x-rays, quick polish, cost nil. She's also just had treatment with her NHS dentist, removal of wisdom teeth, she thinks she's died and gone to heaven.I know working people who are paying a fortune for medication, they should not even be working as their health is so bad, but the SS will not sign them off as unfit, because as well as having to pay them a monthly wage, the gov will lose the SS payments they make and the jundreds a month that they pay in prescriptions will also be free.

I also know a guy who should not be operating machinery or driving heavy vehcilesdue to ill health, he is 55, but the SS will not sign him to the sick, and he drives a HGV.

Well make the most of it while you can....times are a changing and it won't be long before what you take for granted free on the NHS will be charged for too, they just can't afford to sustain it at that level.

It's only recently that I officially retired, so for several years while living here in Spain I bought my meds over the counter....they were in fact much less expensive than the prescription charges I was paying in ENGLAND.

Things are going from bad to worse in Spain.
In the past I've bought a few things over the counter at reasonable cost but the last twice I've asked for them I was simply told they were no longer available.
I was dumb enough to let them palm me of with some expensive herbal remedy in one instance which was absolutely useless and I binned it, so never again.
I'll make sure to be well stocked up from the UK before my next trip.
