Default Pool safety for dogs

Hi folks, this is my first request on a thread. I live in the Antequera area with my family and 2 small 'yorkies'. We have a small swimming pool with the ladder style steps to get in and out, and I am concerned that if the dogs fell in they would not be able to get out. I have heard that I can get a ramp for them to climb safely out of the pool. Can anyone offer me advice on what they are like and where I can get one from please.

Welcome, Google is your friend, although I cant see any stockists in Spain, but I think a Pool shop could get you, or make one yourself, ;-)

A floating cover is another option.

Small dogs will have no problem walking across the pool, in fact I was at a friends house last week and his 30kg dog ran across the pool - he got wet feet but that was all.

Do you remember the advert years back for a pool cover with a rolls royce sat on top of it?

Thanks for your help. I like the sound of thr floating cover, as my yorkies are quite small it should do the trick. They both hate water but the younger one is so loopy, she keeps runnung round thr pool. I just know that one, or both, will end up in there one day. I think I will have a scout round the pool shops. By the way, I think this is a great forum, everyone seems so friendly and helpful. Thanks

a pool cover is a great idea. our little 5kg dog hates the water, but loved to run round the edge when we´re in. one day last year, he stood and shook himslef, slipped, and fell in. amazingly he started swimming, tho he´d never been in before, and thankfully as OH was in, he could rescue him out.
Suffice to say, we now have a pool cover, (though this year e have emptied it, and our friends 38kg dog jumped in last week!! :-(

Thare are also such things as dog lifejackets, usually for dogs that live on boats. But it's another option to consider.

I knew I had seen something, hope it helps, I know its for boats but it is designed for the ladders on boats so cant see why it cant be adapted.
