Never having had a pool i thought a professional pool maintenace company would be best as doing it yourself seems a little complicated . I was just wondering what i might expect to pay . Basically im trying to get some rough figures before moving later in the year RGDS

Assuming you are in Spain full time, pool maintenance is dead simple once you have learned the basics. Pool maintenance companies are a total waste of money unless you are not able to be there to do it yourself.

Unless it's a particularly big or complex pool I don't see the need for a company to do it. I was a little nervous about the one we have but as mentioned, it turns out to be quite simple once you get the hang of it. And it doesn't take long to do that.
Some basic tools and a good testing kit are usually enough.
I would though call in the professionals if there seemed to be a particular problem outside the norm.

First, get someone to show you how the filtration system works so that you know which valves to use to do the basic maintenance, cleaning etc.
Second, buy a water test kit and some chemicals and learn how to use those.
Third, set the pump filtration to the shortest possible time you can get away with - say two hours a day (to save money on your electricity bill)
It's really not rocket science - once you understand the basics, it's easy and it really is not expensive to run.
We have a large pool and it costs us less than €100 a year.

I'll second what Fred James said.
I'd never been near the maintenance side of a pool before but within a couple of months was perfectly happy to maintain it. I never sought the advice of a professional, but with the aid of the internet ascertained which valves did what, tested the water and have kept it since. It really is easy and takes very little time.

I have had my pool for 17 years, and do all my own maintenance. I go along with Fred James advice. I've included a link to a forum I have used in the past, I hope I am not breaking rules with a link.
