I am doing a fairly comprehensive list of plants that can be grown in Spain, including non natives, it will have categories for differing conditions and situations, so give me a couple of days and I will get it finished and post it.

We only have a roof terrace so would appreciate it if your plants list included ones that can grow in pots but not large ones.

Patio and container plants were one of the categories so no problems.

The reason that I said plants that would not need too large a pot is because to get the pot up to the roof OH has to carry it up 57 stairs and he is SO OLD that he cannot carry really heavy weights.

I know I should not double post and if I am being naughty then I am very sorry. Anyone living in the Chiclana area that would like free topsoil PM me as I have about 1 1/2 yards of the stuff that I no longer need, if you want to come and collect all or just a bag full then please feel free to do so.

RugbyMatt, have you thought of writing a book on the subject? There don't seem to be too many available out there, and I for one would buy it!!:D

My knowledge pales in comparison when it comes to my tutors, naturally, but who knows what the future holds, or where we will end up eh?

Hi all! I have been enjoying reading what plants will do well and where. I went into a book shop a few weeks ago to try and get a book that covered mediteranean plants. Much to my surprise, there weren't any! So this thread has been very informative!
I wonder if anyone could tell me, if you are actually allowed to take plants to Spain from the UK. I didn't think you could, but would be delighted to be advised differently. I have a lot of plants that I would love to take with me if possible. Will watch for new posts with eager anticipation!

Yes you can as it is in the EU, but you could check with DEFRA site as they will ahve the full information. There are a number of French garden centres that do great business with UK buyers coming over on day trips, Spain would be the same, but it's just too far for a day trip. There will be some limitations, but they should be listed. Places in the Canaries certainly sell growing plants for people to take home with them.
