Yesterdays was even dafter. A couple wanting to buy a place in one of the Virgin Isles...never been before. Every property they showed them was on the steep hills and had lots of steps. He had already said he had a back problem and receiving disability! He did seem to manage ok. though...wonder if they were watching from the local benefits office
Yes they obviously wanted to be in Marbella so it's no good showing them a house in Monda or Coin, the daughter said she didn't like the inland pueblos.

Having said that, their budget wouldn't find them much if they were in Marbella even in these hard times...perhaps a garage.
I often think some of these people just go on the program for a free holiday and have no intention of buying.

It said at the start of the programme that he was recently seperated. I thought at times he seemed very depressed so maybe it was just his daughter trying to get him a break. poor man was barely coherent at times.

Just had a quick glance, not the cheapest of agents but there are a few there for his budget fo £200-250,000 budget. They would all probably take an offer too. Not my cup of tea but certainly as good as the TV showed, and a better area.

Just seen the first programme on the internet, wouldn't have looked except that it was based round Playa Flamenca where we lived when we moved to Spain, I really didn't see what the programme makers wer doing as they specifically asked to be near the sea, so they take them 30mins inland for one property, always going to be a no brainer, and the one at Villamartin, again not near the sea, Ok not that far away, but a car journey away, and poor shopping there as well. One of the Shopping Centres they showed being built was under construction in 2003 when we lived there, development had been stopped because they couldn't rent out the units.

I saw part of it, missed the first 20 minutes or so. I don't know the area featured at all so I didn't mean a great deal to me, the couple's budget was £120,000 so all the properties I saw were pretty small. One of them was an apartment on the 23rd floor of a tower block in Benidorm, so not in Denia at all! What would you do if the lift broke down - I wouldn't fancy climbing all those stairs with or without shopping!

Was about the Denia area, they took them inland to places near Montgo as well, but thet were looking for somewhere as a holiday home to start with, but then a permanent one.

I find it hard to watch these types of programme, and I think I've worked out the reason why. In the show they invariably end up showing a British couple looking at a remote detached villa in search of the "true Spanish experience"... For me that is a very unrepresentative Spanish experience. From my time in Madrid, a true experience would be as a keep-fit teacher, or working 10 hour shifts in a bar, or in a bank, or delivering supplies, or as a doctor, or even studying to become an air traffic controller (!). Of course some people from Madrid will holiday on the coast, and many will have a family get-away place. But having a holiday place, or being rich enough to not to have to work, is not unique to either the Brits or Spanish, and I can't see how it can be described as such.

Agree with you. So many work until they are totally unable to. There are two orange farmers living across the road from my house one is in his mid seventies and the other is over eighty and they still work. They both have a town house and a small house in the campo but neither are well off.

They have to say somthing to fill out the length of the programm, and it would sound a bit shallow if most people said what they really wanted"ie the ideal property, in the right place, for a lesser price than it is worth.

As you say, anything from working in a sweatshop, to gutting fish in a factory is a true Spanish Experience.
