I wonder at times how many Brits there are living here who do not have a pool, no Sky TV, are not drinkers, and try to intergrate who are offended by the 'Brit' image that is portrayed.

Not every Brit buys Sky digital and not all Brits watch Corrie and Eastenders wherever they live.

Speaking as a non-corrie; non soaps viewer ............! and a non-archers listener....! I try to escape the TV when I go to Spain.
Yes, we have digital - but leave that for the tenants to look at!
There are 8 different nationalities living on my community - with a large number of German and only one Spanish family. Five years ago I decided to learn Spanish, and try to get some practice in every time I come out there. So many people are speaking in English that the only people that I seem to be able to practice Spanish with are my German neighbours!

I live in a tiny tiny Portuguese village, nobody speaks english, they are a very close knit community who have opened their arms to us as if we are family.
Why? because we made a huge effort to integrate from day 1,and they know that we are not the "archetypal" pool side gin swilling brit that they hear about.
Expats have an image and its very difficult for others to realise that we are not all the same
Anyway,about this lamb...................

Do you honestly believe that there are more people like you here than there are the Brits we have described?
Someone mentioned a good point earlier - "it conflicts with their idea of a dream life in Spain" (paraphrased). A 'typical Spanish village' of their idealised image of Spain is very different to the reality. What they refer to is a quiet, white painted village, with a sprinkling of other expats on hand and where there are Spaniards who have some knowledge of English. Put them in a real village where nobody speaks English and there are no other foreigners except themselves and the 'dream' is shattered.
Rosemary, for every one of you there must be 100 of the others

The Spanish are no worse and no better to live with than any other race anywhere else in the world. You get some lovely people yes, but some can be real @rseholes too. You can get pleasant neighbours and neighbours from hell, as you do anywhere. On the whole they don't "like" or accept us immigrants any more than we British "like" or accept immigrants back in the UK no matter how hard you try to integrate. They might smile sweetly and bring you "gifts" from their garden to make you think they are your new best buddy but many can and will shaft you as quick as look at you.
At their worst many Spanish are, frankly, downright xenophobic, misogynistic, homophobic, loud, rude, two-faced, ignorant and nosey. However, I choose to live amongst them because it's still preferable to any alternative at the moment!
