Results of some extensive tests in Israel.
Apparently Confidor was pretty well ineffective when injected in pines against caterpillars, but one or two others incl.Ipon seemed to work reasonably well.
Shall have to look up Orthene,...not familiar with it.

Another test in Israel,24yr ago, relating to Orthene, which seemed to work quite well, but does involve quite a lot of drilling and injecting.
Question is are these things readily available in Spain and what trade names they go under?
Also if they are really effective I would have thought they would be better known, widely used and widely available.

Some insecticides are only normally available for commercial use - maybe your local agricultural supplier might know if Orthene is available.

It is a systemic organophosphate - a similar chemical which is readily available is Chlorpirifos - sold as Chas 48 and Cuspid 48.

I have also used these for larger bugs such as ants and cochinella - they are used commercially for eradication of cockroaches.

One thing remains true. If you have a problem like this, it pays to find out everything you can about it.

I learnt a very important lesson a long time ago. There are an awful lot of people out there who are very quick to say something can't be done. It has been my experience that a lot (not all) are not fully aware of all the facts and that there actually is a solution if you look far enough.

Not always so, and I have tried stuff only to fail, because the people who told me no were actually correct. On the positive side tho, I have succeeded in a number of events rated as impossible and on the whole I am well ahead of the game!
