Why my car stays in the garage during Spanish holidays/Fiestas
Anyone else see the report on TVE1 news tonight?
The Guardia set up a Alcohol check point (think it was somewhere near Cuenca) at 8am one morning during the Semana Santa holiday, and had 45 positive results in just two and a half hours!
That's one every three minutes.

Just like here people get nabbed at DUI checkpoints all the time, it's just the case of simple stupidity

First offence I'd want something medieval done, second offence, you'd never be able to drive again, so the problem wouldn't arise.
I don't like drivers who use the phone, but I HATE those who get in the car and DUI.

On a slightly different note, in our village, the last place you leave your car during a fiesta is in the garage.
This is because it is a mountain village with tiny steep winding lanes, there is hardly anywhere to park so visitors just park wherever there is room. If you have a garage it means there is some flat ground outside it so people park there. Which means you can't get out of your garage.
We don't have a garage, but we do live on the downhill end of a steep lane with a dead end (there is an unfenced ravine at the bottom), and our neighbours' visitors just park at the top, therefore we can't get our car out of the lane. (We have to reverse up anyway, it is hair-raising!).
We just park it at the top of the village on the main road during Fiestas.
