PG Tips
Has they stopped selling them in your local Mercadona?
2 in my area and another 40km away are not stocking them anymore... Pepco Alfafar is now my only choice for "english tea". Not a problem but I liked that the supermarket were an option with a decent price.. |
Re: PG Tips
A while ago they seemed to disappear, then were back again but now seem to be unavailable again. I order from Mercadona on line so I thought that maybe they were in the shops but not on line. Mercadona used to sell Tetleys too but not for a very, very long time. On line they do not sell any other alternative so Amazon is my current port of call.

Re: PG Tips
I have always bought my tea here in Spain from Pepco / Dealz - but now most of them do not have a food section...
Maybe mercadona were just using up their stocks since brexit? |

Re: PG Tips
I only buy loose tea; can't stand tea bags!
I buy a 1.5kg bag from an Indian/Pakistani shop. They always have a plentiful supply, including tea bags if you prefer. |
Re: PG Tips
Gave up UK brown tea years ago along with cow's milk and sugar. (But I will check my local Merca out of interest and report back)

Re: PG Tips
Quality of PG-Tips is terrible now anyway..more like dust. Can't even get 2 cups out of 1 bag.
Get a nice big bag of Yorkshire tea 240 bags..about the only one that still tastes real. |

Although to be honest Typhoo which is bagged in Moreton is just as bad. The cleanest plant has to be Taylor's in Harrogate. Silly fact.. All machines destined for Tea Factories (well uk ones anyway) had to be painted a light green colour. |
Re: PG Tips
I think Consum were also selling PG Tips and stopped around the same time.
Twinings is the backup in Consum....but it's not the same... |

Re: PG Tips
Living in North America I buy PGTips from Amazon, usually several boxes of 240. It is certainly cheaper than buying small boxes, from the few shops that sell them over here.

The only tea I get is from M&S when flying from the UK, and since it's quite light anyway I tend to bring a year's+ supply with me every time... :) Likewise I'll load up on tea in other countries, such as Poland for mint tea or Singapore for jasmine/green/oolong/roast rice tea. Good thing I travel light so there's lots of space for shopping... :) |

Dealz is actually Poundland so although not entirely about food it should still have a decent food section with all the usual suspects.

They also got rid of the DIY section in the three near us (I used to buy knives for my model making and they were really cheap) We stopped using them recently as the prices on the shelves didnt match the barcode on the item. Happened alot the two people in front of us were complaining about being overcharged and the manager didnt want to know.. |

I used to fill a suitcase with PGTips. I actually used to empty the boxes into plastic bags so I could get more in the case. Always had secondary screening when I entered the US. Goodness knows what they must have thought the couple of thousand bags contained.

Re: PG Tips
Carrefour selling UK tea but you won't like the prices! Glad I have given it up.
I buy Pompadour green teas in all sorts of fabulous flavours. |
Re: PG Tips
PG tips are back in Mercadona.
I was just updating my next order and looked at the list of what I habitually buy in case I had missed something important and there they were. New packaging, 2.50 a pack of 40. Rosemary |

Re: PG Tips
It would seem the price increase is down to PG Tips rather than Mercadona and price has gone up in UK also .

Re: PG Tips
I was in the Iceland store in Benidorm yesterday - tons of Uk teabags on the shelf, sorry didn't record exact prices etc.
|
Re: PG Tips
Not surprised to hear that as there are so many Brits living/visiting that area. Becomes much more difficult in areas lacking in Brits.

Re: PG Tips
Also found plenty of teas, including decaf - in a British store nearby. Prices haven't changed much in several months.
|
Re: PG Tips
Plenty of PG Tips in Morrisons in Gibraltar. We bought a box of 210 and it cost £6.79.

We got a couple of boxes last week. I usually wait for the deal time when it drops to €7.50 a box. But we are off to the Uk in April and Im driving so we will fill up with a couple of thousand... Have found DialaPrix *on the way to Altea Cheaper than Iceland for tea bags and curry sauces. (I would rather make my own but her ladyship wont let me) |
Re: PG Tips
Russels in Torrox have a good range of english tea types. Relatively exoensive as is the case with most expat foodstuff. We switched to teabags from Dunnes. Cheap and an excellent substitute for PG, Yorkshire et al.

Re: PG Tips
I thought PG Tips claim to fame were their pyramid tea bags but the ones I just purchased from Mercadona are square... Still better than Typhoo though...

Re: PG Tips
Could definitely do with a M&S food store here. Until then part of my suitcase when traveling to the UK is reserved for their tea...

I liked the variety of teas in the UK, now we're back in Oz we drink Twinings english breakfast (extra strong), or good old Yorkshire tea. |

Would the Iceland there sell things like pork pies? No British shops anywhere here. |

I recently bought a walls pork pie from an English shop here in Spain . It was awful the texture of the meat just wasn't right and we ended up throwing it away. Not sure if that was because it had been frozen but I certainly wouldn't get one again. I only bought it as it was larger size than the smaller 4 pack ones I can get fairly easily they taste fine no problem with their content texture but they aren't Walls. Being a Yorkshireman I enjoy a nice pork pie but will definitely avoid Walls ones in future .
