Organ transplantees living in Spain
Hello,
We have been thinking of moving to Spain for a number of years but one of the things that has stopped us is my wife's health. She has had a number of medical complications due to diabetes not least having had a kidney transplant and last year a pancreas transplant so she is understandably somewhat anxious about making the move.
We plan to maybe rent for say 6 months to test the water with regard the medical care in Spain as she will need to see various specialists/consultants etc. on an ongoing basis.
I was wondering if there is anyone else who is in a similar situation having had a transplant or any other major surgery for that matter that requires ongoing monitoring and how they find the quality of treatment in Spain compared to the UK?
Thanks
EV

Re: Organ transplantees living in Spain
Spain is leader in transplant. In fact, I believe that has the best system of transplant in the world, countries as Australia and United Kingdom (this has been said by the Premier Gordon Braun) they want to copy the Spanish system. I believe that we have a good sanitary system.
I know that Spain has an excellant system set up for the co-ordination of organ transplants and that the Spanish population are very educated in the need for donors and I know that Spain has one of the highest rates of transplants per head of population. I also know for a fact that the Scottish Health Services holds up the Spanish system as the one that they would like to emulate.
It is good to hear that the Spanish system has been recommeded to you by your specialist. Thankyou for the info.

Possibly due to the fact that in Spain you are automatically assumed to be prepared to donate organs unless you have made arrangements specifically to opt out - the complete reverse of the UK system.
