Strong childhood memory of mine. I was 11 when I watched on TV. One of those moments I have never forgotten. RIP. Also he was a true gentleman and quite humble.

Having recently watched (again) Apollo 13, brings back memories of many things - the making of the "bleep tone" generator circuits that became the "in toy" of the day in amateur radio, ISTR someone somewhere tried to get them banned, but cannot remember what happened after that.
Also, remember being on ships that were on standby for the recovery of lunar capsules if they came down in the "wrong place", but we were never that "lucky" to have been called on to do our duty.
A man of men who will be remembered throughout history for his momentous efforts to do just that little bit more than was expected - something regrettably we have lost amongst all the bling, throw away items, so many of which owe their very existence to the Apollo project.
RIP
