Yes indeed, I had heard that on the radio today.

Olympic tennis gets no funding at all, yet we won two medals, best value for money medals, most of the rest cost about 4 million in funding.

That's a bit different as it is a professional sport and like football, the participants are effectively in well paid full time jobs. It's funded by the media.

stuff it in a curry, you won't notice the difference - horse, lamb, pork, beef, rabbit, dog, cat, all tastes the same in a good curry don't you know

Never tried Donkey meat myself, reckon it could be a bit chewy.

How about Gold Medal Donkey racing on Copacabana Beach at the next Olympics ?

It used to go down well enough at Butlins. :D

Re: The Olympics

Its funny, our little local paper has got a lead story about the "Legacy" on its front page, it has a picture of Olympic Park with 5 gold rings and the Headline simply says, "Its down to you now"

As little and colloquial as our paper is I think it sums it up perfectly. It shouldn't be about what the government or councils or anyone else really, does for you, its down to you, down to us to actually do something. If we sit back and let the legacy fail, let the whole thing just be a one off then thats down to us. The money is obviously out there, this Olympics is proof of it and all this talk of no legacy is just tosh. I have friends who are sportsmen and women, the OH and I have friends who are professional eventers and showjumpers and the hours they put in, the work rate they keep up is a complete tribute to them.

The bottom line is that it IS down to us.

I thought salami was cattle heart. Do they add some donkey heart or is it all donkey heart?
Not sure it matters donkey or cow.

Time to get back to the Olympics - if there is actually much more to say about them.

If you want to discuss donkeys and salami try the food thread in PDT.

Good point, however I do think we should keep the thread going to cover the paralympics, that by all accounts are also going to be a sell out.

I tried to get tickets without luck, hopefully some are being released next week.

I cannot understand the drip drip method of releasing tickets, after all at Eton Dorney (IIRC) they did manage to issue tickets for seats that didnt exist due to a change in the seating arrangements.

surely people want to plan their attendence, know they have a seat, what day/time, for the event(s) they want to see

but the theory says they made a profit, there was no terrorist incident, no major upsets other than jealous French and Ozzies, but they don't matter.
considering the scale, the enormity, the jigsaw came together quite well.

I agree with some of the posts on here. The Olympics was originally for amateur athletes and should remain so. I dont think its fair that some athletes have to battle for their funding and rich professional athletes like tennis players can compete alongside the ones that battle for funding.
