I thought it was great and showed that we can laugh at ourselves. The amount of work putting that all together is mind boggling.
Boyle deserves a lot of credit as do all involved in it especially the volunteers.

The amount of organisation required to put on a show like this, especially the timing and logistical sides - and then it all has to come together on one day with the whole world watching... All the people involved have my total admiration.

As the Spanish commentator pointed out, it was a hell of a lot quicker than Eurovision! :D

The US commentators kept going on about how fast the entrance of the athletes was compared to other opening ceremonies. If the said "they are moving at a break neck speed" once they said it another 10 times just to get the point across :D

Um, I think that was rather the point.

British isn't a race, it's a culture, and that culture is a compilation of lots of cultures that enrich us.

Hear hear.

Morris dancing was originally "Moorish". How British is that? :)

Why is this thread in Siesta Time and the opening ceremony one in the Plaza de Toros?

Is there actually any difference? It seems to end up with blood in the sand wherever you post!

More than one pearly King and Queen, albeit briefly, and I thought they were fitting for London. Why not?

If it was aiming to represent everyone where were the Boy Scouts and the Burkhas:lol: Plenty of the latter in London.

You're not a big fan of multiculturalism are you? Is it all a bit 'dark' for you?

Not a particularly great fan of any culture it seems,... too dark for jackys world of glamour obviously.

As for your own thread jacky, why not indeed ?
What about Jackys 5 Star, Glitz and Glamour thread ?
All sequins, silicone tits and fake tans, great stuff eh, Not.

As an ensemble they did a good job, but I am curious what he actually did. Despite every film he touches being worth watching; he is not an auteur, choreographer or from a theater background.

From what I can make out, he directed the overall performance. Each segment was overseen by a 'second' director. I saw an interview with the guy who designed the cauldron/large torch. He was pretty spacey 'yeah man' :)

The forging of the ring was pretty far out man, too.

Are people still bitching about it? Seriously? Are they? So far as I can tell, aside from the 13 and a half people on Arsebook, the Daily Hate and the Guardian, everyone else loved it.... I'll take that as a success!
