I read while trying to comprehend the Autopistas is that should they go bankrupt then money has to be paid back to the owners of the land they sit on, is that one of the main issues, I have not really taken the time to read too much into it as of yet.

I think some tolls are too high (price) and some should not exist in dangerous areas where there are lots of fatal accidents, I can see the point of some as nobody assumed or gave any thought that when they were built that Spain would be in the mire so much, when the shit hits you, you start with your home then your boat then your car and so on.

In France one pays just once the 'road fund' on the car but then pays of course the auto routes which are hugely expensive.

Is road fund in Spain an annual event?

Yes, the cost varies throughout different municipalities and is also dependent on engine power.

Thus I paid some 165 euros on a car costing let us say a hell of a lot. But of course travel from Paris to the border with Spain and do that say three times a year?
