I was clearly referring to adapting to the developing situation after the war began and the failure of the Germans to take a leaf out of our book by adapting factories to boost armament production when they realized they had bitten off far more than they could chew.
Nothing to do with efficiency, though it has to be said the UK did exceptionally well in that dept at the time and under the circumstances, but if you take the trouble to read the post properly you will see I was referring to Adaptability and Improvisation.
I think the OP was right when he said you could well have been shot as a traitor during the war.

You could have been the perfect partner for Lord Hawhaw !

If I lived in 1940s Britain I am sure I would have supported it 100%. Firstly because of the position the world was in, in 1939, it was the right thing to do, and secondly, the information I would have had access to would have been British government propaganda leaving no doubt what the right thing to do was.
However, I am pretty sure that if any of us were German and living in Germany we would probably have made the same conclusions that fighting for Germany would have been the right thing to do
You guys never learnt relativism is the 1960s did you?

Thats not really the case. The Germans were building ammunition as Neville Chamberlain was appeasing everyone. They were incredibly efficient - as to be expected
The Germans lost because Hitler was crazy and lost all sense of perspective. He spread into countries he had no real interest in conquering such as the UK and Russia where they were beaten soundly because they were not prepared.
Russia and Britain won the war - with a little bit of support from the US. They both had a strong leaders (OK Stalin was crazy too) and a resilient people - and they knew they were morally right which is a big driver of who is going to win a war.

Hitler failed to read the books read by all Generals such as Sun Tzu and the successes and failings of people like Napolean and Wellington.
He sent millions of good people into Russia at a time when they were not a threat (and in fact probably not capable of being a threat),
at the wrong time of the year trying to emulate the push through the low countries,
without a proper supply chain into a country where living off the land wasnt possible for the Russians letalone a German army,
without understanding the need for more troops to replace casualties and
just walking away from the situation and pretending it had never happened.
Despite that the Germany army got within 19miles of Moscow.
Russia was a final nail in the coffin.

Wrong - the German people and more importantly the German military lost the will to keep on the fight led by someone who was so narcissistic that he could stomach anyone having a higher profile than himself.
Hitler failed to read the books read by all Generals such as Sun Tzu and the successes and failings of people like Napolean and Wellington.

the German Army were a modern day killing machine, brought up in a military manner, honed in Spain, had audacious planners who could see the Maginot Line as an anachronism and just drove round it. Used mechanisation whilst the rest of Europe was still using horses and lances. Took decisive action instead of prevarication.
If Germany had called a halt at the Channel and just settled back, consolidating, most of Europe would still be part of the 3rd Reich.
Russia was totally unprepared, and only fought back as they were attacked. If that attack hadnt happened Russia would still be a sleepy backwater with little to no say in modern military and political goings on.
Isnt there a saying about not disturbing a bear whilst its hibernating.?

A couple of arial bombardments lasting a few hours is hardly "honed in Spain"

[QUOTE=cricketman;9714258]
so a military historian as well as everything else ?
just read up on the work of the Condor Legion, pulling many of the bombing, strafing raids along with active troop action over a 3 year period. They suffered a large number of losses in action.
All became the foundation of the German Army and airforce that pushed through the low countries, providing experience and stability to the conscripts brought in to bolster the numbers.
Wilhelm Ritter von Thoma went on to be commander of a Panzer division in Europe.

Had they taken us, and then consolidated in Europe, the middle east and Africa, they would simply have been unbeatable.
The conquest of the world would then have been a real option for them.

The two stupidest things that the Nazis did were not taking the UK, and taking on Russia.
Had they taken us, and then consolidated in Europe, the middle east and Africa, they would simply have been unbeatable.

did he believe that once he had sent us home we would sit there spitting but do nothing ?
at that time we were a beaten army, leaving an enormous amount of weaponary behind, as well as men he would probably have preferred to return at a given point, for guarantees of not re-using them.
the Royal Navy were thorn but not insurmountable in the longer term. Just that the ship mix of the Kriegsmarine wasnt right.

As per usual you totally miss the point C'man.

To be honest, I reckon that the Nazis figured we were a spent force, in that we realistically could be left till later.
Of course with hindsight, a bad mistake.

and people wonder why I say the term British is discredited, given to anyone who passes a tick the box test, it should be an honour to be earned. Something that can be taken away from you if you drag it in the dirt.

as each year goes by we get closer to the Rivers of Blood promised by Enoch, just his dream was a little bit skewed as to race\colour.
It will come, and then the imams will still be running around wringing hands and saying such actions are not those of good muslims. So why are they knowingly condoning it within their community. Fence sitting R US ?
