Default New rules on registering on the Padron, Orihuela area

New rules for registering on the Padron in the Orihuela area have been introduced, you can now only register on teh padron AFTER you have got the new redisency certificate. This applies in Orihuela City and Orihuela Costa at the moment, BUT will be rolled out to other parts of the Alicante province.

Oh well it will be a catch22 scenario if they do that here because you have to be on the Padron before you can get new residencia certificate!

The only document requirements for the new certificate are your passport and NIE number.

No photos, no padron - nothing else. Just read the back of the application form.

Not sure if it's gonna be a national thing or not, but certainly in Alicante province.

This seems odd since I thought the EU rules were that you were eligable to vote in local elections if you owned property. We registered on the Padron in Ayamonte with just our Escritura (showing ownership of our plot) and passport. When we become resident on completion of the villa we will then ask to be put on the voters list which is separate in Ayamonte. For that we may need the new Residencia Certificate but at the time we went on the Padron we could have registered to vote as well.

This is a NEW thing and only came into force this month, we registered on the Padron when we came over here to live, we registered to vote last year after eventually receiving the forms from Alicante, despite the local Correos failing to deliver over 70% of the forms to the area. At that time you only needed escritura and utility bills to get on the padron, now you need residency certificate as well.
