Apologies if you already have. Good luck either way.
so long as certain (bank) things go through this week, I'll mention it next week. It's really nothing special though!

That might be the right advice for you: an entrepreneur who is familiar with Spain and the "spanish way".
However, it's worth noting that there are more bankruptcies during "boom" years then during a recession. In addition, any company that has survived up to this point will not be up for sale, for the very reasons you give - that things are starting to look up (unless there are some skeletons in its cupboard).

I'd never advise people moving to a new country to start their own business there, which is what this thread is all about, as there are too many unkowns and unknowables for newbies. Even if that business was in a sector they were familiar with. I would be even more skeptical about suggesting they buy one as a going concern - as I seriously doubt it would be.

Probably the best advice here (although many drawbacks may not be apparent if spending just a few weeks on holiday).

Some good points there. One others have alluded to earlier is that location changes the (business) landscape totally. What may work in Valencia or Denia, may flop completely in Seville or Mallorca.

I remembered reading this when it opened.

Just in time for the Christmas rush, Marks & Spencer have opened a 14,000 sq ft store in La Cañada shopping mall in Marbella. The bright and attractively arranged store is managed by York Marbella SL, the franchise partner of the brand in Gibraltar – where they have been trading successfully for 41 years.

The disadvantage is that I won't have a family of helpers - I will start off with one local employee and that costs money.
It's not a light step to take, but I thought I'd just weigh in with my opinion, as others will be reading this thread. Yes, it could be I'm wrong and you are totally in the right. But so long as this is a free talkboard I will add my contributions, regardless of how little you regard them.
As for the OP, I'd suggest looking into the possibility of running a backpacker hostel - I'm not saying it could work everywhere, but they seem to be thriving in big cities. There may be a problem getting the right permissions in Spain, so it would need a lot of research, and as I say it may not be viable - but check it out.
Could you please point out in my post below where I am being picky.

I pointed out that the OP is in an entirely different situation to you, having a large family to support, with little knowledge of Spanish, and not in the postition of buying a business.

And who are not interested in living in Madrid, as they want to be on the coast.

I even agreed with you that it is probably the best time for your business venture.

So why are you attempting to correct me about your business plans, and the fact that you have no family to help out.

I have not questioned your plans at all, so why are you saying that you could be wrong and I could be 100 percent right, when I have not made any comment about you taking on employees or anything to do with your running of the business.

You are trying to make out in your post that I am in some way pooh poohing your plans, quite the opposite, as I have said that "it sounds good for you" )see my post below.

I was answering the OP about their plans, and as usual, you have come to the wrong conclusion as you are putting your own slant on things, that have not been written.

So as to save further confusion please point out where the offending part of my post is, the part that warrented your reply to me, because as far as I am concerned it is not there.

I suggest my re-read the post in question, before making a further fool of yourself.

I have apologised to DMU for quoting him by mistake, and when you have re-read my "offending, picky" post, I hope you will be adult enought to do the same.

We all know about your plans, I have read them numerous times on here and other forums. It sounds good for you, but you don´t have school age kiddies in tow and an extended family to support.

I made a quip about "the usual suspects" and you fell straight into it.
You were picky because, as we all know, any tips or advice on threads like this, can apply to people with different circumstances. Plus, nothing will ever apply 100% to another person.

You've made your opinions quite clear on several occasions about me. So no whingeing when you get some back.

Just want to point out, i already run my own online business, which can be continued ANYWHERE i go. I currently hold stock, but can switch with my wholesalers to drop shipping instead, so will still be a UK based business.

As for supporting my daughter (extended family) We are buying the house/apartment/flat whatever we find, they will be living with us, but will be expected to chip in with bills and shopping.. They know this. So not really supporting them..

Really easy down our part of Spain. You should be able to get something for 400-600 euros for three bedrooms. I would suggest that you come out in the winter rather than the summer then you will really know what it is like.

Personally I wouldn´t bring children in the age range of 10-16. You will be disrupting their education. The Spanish education system is completely different. Try Spanish history for example. How would they be able to cope with this and if you don´t pass all your exams you don´t go up the next year.

As others have said THERE IS NO WORK HERE.
