I knew about the Barbados scheme as I have friends who are under it.
The residency test for the Uk is also very interesting, if a little complex.

Potentially win win but it would very much depend on finding a place that suits you. With the hosts charging between 130€ and 270€ a week for food and accommodation, you can see what's in it for them and for Spain. Presumably you can move around and you don't have to commit to a place upfront and stay there for the duration?

Call me cynical but it does rather seem that business is latching on to what people have already been doing for a long time, and is looking to package it into a "product", promote it and make money.
I was travelling and working from my motorhome in the early 2000s. I didn't regard myself as part of a movement and there was no need to join a community or pay anyone for support. I just did it because it suited me at the time.

Isn't the drawback that you can basically only live in Spain for 5 years as a digital nomad then you have to leave? Not much incentive to really settle down as you are not accorded any residency rights. I suppose if you were young and without any family or responsibilities it would be fine but as a long term solution to living and working in Spain it doesn't really offer much.

2 posters hit the "nail on the head".of why this is not for you but good for the new world and especially europe..
1 - he/she says they were traveling and working in their motorhome earlier in life but actually working from that motorhome? A computer & internet connectivity set up and you do your work inside of the motorhome? Big difference from living in a motorhome and leaving to work in the country that could be taken a job from a local - ie. restaurant worker, farm hand, construction, selling t-shirts, etc.
It is not the same. These are the new age hippies..(e) all work is digital (/e)
2 - this poster is of the older, older generation and does not care what it means for the new world order. It has nothing to do with pensions, driver license, brexit or residency here and only looks at the "drawbacks". Not many people who will use this visa want to "retire" in Spain. Nice to visit... Like Amsterdam or Las Vegas... 1 year maximum and on to another "hip" location; though they could find love & marry a EU national or decide to go the "normal" visa route in the future and then they will be posting on here to find out how to do it under this new regime.
It will only benefit Spain to implement this visa with the same enforcement as other visas. A win - win situation.

Obviously the digital nomad visa appeals to certain groups more than others. It seems more likely that young people without families who wish to travel and work simultaneously will find the visa a good idea, however there are many folk who wish to settle down and have stable employment and a 5 year limit is perhaps not so appealing. On this website most of the members are not really moving to Spain for work reasons but more for the weather and retirement so I dont think the visa is going to help them if they are thinking about gaining residency.
