It is very patronising of the posters referring to "poor" people not being able to have the debit card. Nationwide promoted this facility very very heavily to get people to join and then they stop it. I believe to get the debit card now you have to agree to have your salary paid in and all your direct debits from it. I was lucky to get a debit card before this new ruling but no doubt this is the begining of the end for the debit card too. I think there will be a big backlash against them for doing this

If not many people use the cash card for withdrawals as Nationwide state, why are they stopping it, as it can't be costing them that much!
This certainly was not true last summer when I opened my Flexaccount. I do have my Pension paid into it now (from February) , but at the time I was not in receipt of my Pension and there was no regular payment going into my account. Same as the Direct Debits, there is one going out now , but I only arranged that a few days ago.

I opened my Flexaccout with no money and for months it only had £20 in. I still got the Debit Card.

Wheter things have changed now I don't know.

My cash card stopped working so phoned NW , they said they would send out replacement. When I asked if it was worth it as they are stopping them I was told that if I wanted I could just phone up and upgrade cash card to Visa/debit, no probs.
If you look on their site the criteria for upgrading doesn't seem that strict.
It seems to me as if NW have some "other agenda" for doing this and as with hidden agenda's they're not going to tell and we'll never know.
