Default N332 lorry ban

I have just read in the EWN that from April all lorries with a laden weight exceeding 7.5 tonnes are to be banned from the N332 in Valencia and Alicante regions and must use the AP7 instead with reduced toll fees.
For those of us in towns effected by lorries using the N332 this is good news. Let's hope it is well policed.
A more sensible approach would be to make the AP7 toll free but this a start.

If it's enforced it will make a major difference to towns like Oliva.

There shall still be some lorries running through Oliva as there is a large logistics depot south just off the N332. Unfortunately Oliva's AP7 junction is north of the town so lorries travelling south to the depot shall still need to drive through the town.
It is a major plus though for many towns that are not bypassed by the N332/A38.

The only downside I see is that I shall not have the toll road to myself from the airport!

It's a national directive to get trucks on to motorways. The government will refund 50% of the toll fees incurred by trucks, the premise being that by using motorways rather than smaller roads, the trucks will use less fuel and arrive quicker.

It only covers areas where the journey can be made by motorway over ordinary roads though, and of course the truck companies are up in arms over it all as well.

I'm sure you are right. The question is what proportion of lorries passing through Oliva are only on the N332 to avoid tolls ??

The N332 through Oliva has always been a nightmare with heavy haulage trucks. I've followed some when driving North and I'm pretty sure that they are using it to avoid the tolls as that road all the way up to where it joins the AP7 is filled with heavy trucks most of the time

It will be a welcome thoughtful move for many if this is true

The present situation - empty toll road/congested N road - is ridiculous. It has developed because of a vicious circle of increasing tolls every year and the usage steadily going down. If we drive to Altea for example, we don't use the toll road - to us the time it saves is simply not worth the toll (which exceeds the cost of the petrol). Can HGV drivers pocket the toll if they use the N road ?

It's very noticeable in France now that N roads running parallel to toll roads (the N10 for example) are packed with HGVs, nose to tail and the toll roads are almost empty.

This is one reason we always use toll roads for long distance travelling. Next to no traffic on them so they are quieter less stressful to use. You don't have to worry about driving nose to tail at 120kph and then some idiot trying to get into the gap in front of you, it very rarely happens.

Driving from Oliva to Alicante Airport, we often started off on the N332 and then changed eventually to the toll, because of the traffic. It was a good two hours to do it on the N332 because of the traffic, an extra 45 - 50 minutes to doing it on the toll!!

How do companies reclaim the 50% of tolls, will this also apply to foreign registered trucks and companies?

Why not just charge 1eu for cars as well as most would jump on there to avoid Oliva, but as the charge is around 2.50 most still use the old road.

Ah well, you'd then have a sensible economic solution. Spanish economists seem to think that if you start losing money then you must increase prices. They don't seem to have fathomed the link between volume and profit. [bit like Red Ed and his tax principles ]

You must be referring to all the multinationals who make maximum profit while paying the smallest volume of tax they can. All at the expense of UK taxpayers! [bit like Camerloon and his multi millionaire cabinet]
