Muro De Alcoy and Moving To Spain
Hi. We're looking around for a possible new home in the Muro De Alcoy area - give or take a few kilometers - bit rural-ish, nothing too grand but a bit of space to spread out a bit and somewhere to stick the inevitable visitors. Not planning on working - underfunded early retirees with simple tastes.
We're planning to come and visit the area again soon, probably driving (because that gives us our own car and a bigger luggage 'allowance') via Calais (our GPS software is suggesting via Reims and avoiding Paris which sounds a good idea) and stay a few weeks (if we can find somewhere).
Would be very interested to hear from any and all with experiences of moving/living, travel to and from by car, health (particularly) and all those things we take for granted and just 'know' but now need to be thought about, etc. - and any potential neighbours.
We have a relative living on the coast who is very enthusiastic but to be realistic has been there long enough to have almost gone native and is in any case very busy with their business.
Look forward to hearing you here or by email (And to make you feel smug it's rain and gales here and has been for - ever.)

Welcome Karen and John, I won't offer any advice as I am not very good at that so I will leave that to my more informed expats, they are very good with the advice they offer as you will soon see they are a great bunch of people. I just want to say from one underfunded early retiree to another, that I hope you find what you are looking for and you live the life when you find it.
Regards
Cristina

Hi Karen & John
Looks like we could be 'neighbours' if you do move to the area. We are buying on an urbanisation outside Castella, not too far from Alcoy. We intend driving over (though the plan keeps changing everytime we think about it) and hope to be moving over in the next few months. At the moment we are waiting for the paperwork to be completed and to be given the go ahead from the agents.

Hi Lionda,
Ah, we have extended our searches to include some interesting properties in that area, so maybe neighbours as you say. We'll have to watch your progress, maybe we can 'steal' some of your experiences.

I'll keep you informed as to how we get on We are going over on Thursday for a couple of weeks to see our solicitor and try and get some answers as to why it is taking so long (should have been ready end of October but now we are being told March) Also taking our eldest daughter over (see my separate thread regarding this). We should compare notes

Re: Muro De Alcoy and Moving To Spain
Hi
I'm new to the site, and looking for any advice on Muro de Alacoy, Alcoy , Cocentaina. We are also thinking about the Ayora valley. What is the winter climate like in these places? We have heard that Ayora can get pretty snowy, but can't find anything about specific climate of places on the Net! Anyone out there who can give some advice please? We are hoping to move at the end of this year, just about to put the house on the market!
Thanks, Sally

For historical data as well as forecasts, Wunderground is the best. If you scroll down the page you will find 'Personal Weather Stations' for a few towns. Castalla perhaps the nearest inland town.
Castalla is much cooler this evening than other places, but it is more than 2000ft above sea level!! One minute ago Castalla was 15C, compared to Alicante 21c and Elche 22.9c. Quite a difference!!
